“It’s poetry in motion.” Former high school football coach Chuck Crews may have been referring to his beloved sport with those words, but they could also describe his activities as Penn College’s assistant director of secondary partnerships. Crews is moving around campus and the state, making connections, building bridges and encouraging more “Tomorrow Makers” (the college’s nickname for its innovative students and graduates).
“High school was my wheelhouse, and I loved it,” he shares in the latest episode of the Tomorrow Makers podcast – “Early Hands-On Experiences.” Crews spent 20 years in the classroom as a high school history teacher. Now he’s on a mission to create seamless transitions from high school to college, ensuring that the next generation of learners is equipped for the future.
Crews discusses the jackpot offered by Penn College Dual Enrollment, where secondary students can take college courses for free during their regular school day. (During the 2023-24 academic year, nearly 2,000 students across the state took advantage of this offering and earned more than 7,000 credits. Tune in to hear those tuition savings!)
He also offers words of wisdom to parents and takes listeners on a “tour” of campus, smelling lumber in the construction labs and tasting culinary delights in college dining halls. His enthusiasm is infectious! Take a cruise around campus with Crews.
