Q&A with PPL

HOW DID YOUR COMPANY FIRST CONNECT WITH PENN COLLEGE?

Penn College has been a recipient of PPL Foundation funds since it was established in 2016. Beyond the financial support aspect of our relationship, there are several Penn College alumni who currently work for PPL Electric Utilities. Upon the last check, there were about 40 employees who attended Penn College.

WHAT QUALITIES OF PENN COLLEGE STUDENTS MAKE THEM STAND OUT FOR YOUR OPERATIONS?

Students at Penn College have been trained to be strong hands-on professionals. We also see them as individuals who are driven to solve problems and provide new perspectives when dealing with issues that arise.

WHAT ASPECTS OF YOUR COMPANY ATTRACT OUR STUDENTS AND FUTURE STUDENTS TO JOIN YOUR OPERATION?

PPL Electric Utilities is an outstanding company for individuals who want to be innovative. Our innovation lab regularly hosts sessions with employees from various backgrounds to come up with solutions to modern-day issues facing the company. Salaries are very competitive, and the culture is one where teamwork is seen as more important than individual achievement. Our company is inclusive and also offers nine different business resource groups for LGBTQ, African American, Asian, Latino, and veteran employees. As a new employee, joining one of these business resource groups is a great way to build a professional network. And while each of these employee-driven groups has its own mission, they all align with PPL’s overall strategy.

WHAT PROFESSIONAL ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE PENN COLLEGE STUDENTS TO BEST PREPARE THEM TO JOIN YOUR TEAM?

PPL Electric Utilities seeks individuals with strong technical expertise, attention to detail and safety, a willingness to innovate, and loyalty.

Industry Connections

"PPL Electric Utilities is proud to be a long-time partner of Penn College. Our work together has benefited middle and high school students, college students, and incumbent workers who seek to enhance their skills. Over the years, PPL has invested in Penn College Dual Enrollment, The Dr. Welch Workshop: a Makerspace at Penn College, and Workforce Development training. The Corporate Tomorrow Maker designation is a natural fit as PPL has hired and continues to hire, "tomorrow makers" from Penn College."
