The Clean Energy Center at Penn College is seeking contracted instructors for our Building Operator Certification® (BOC) and Commercial Building Re-tuning (BRT) courses!

Field Experience

We’re looking for individuals who are knowledgeable in one or more of the following areas:

  • Building Automation and Controls
  • Indoor Environmental Quality
  • Building Retuning
  • Commissioning and Retrocommissioning

Generous Compensation

Contracted instructors earn a starting daily rate of $700, with the potential to earn more after one year.

Make Your Own Schedule

Classes are held during normal business hours, but our instructors can teach as many or as few classes as they choose.

In Person and Online

Lead classes from your home or in-person within our territory (Delaware, District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, & West Virginia).

  • Three or more years of experience providing instruction to working professionals in the field of commercial building energy management, facility management, building engineering, operations and maintenance, or a closely related field.
  • Two or more years employment in the field or industry related to the training topic(s) for which the applicant is seeking qualification (e.g., HVAC systems, electrical systems, indoor air quality, etc.).
  • A bachelor’s degree. (Note: Work experience may be substituted for degree. One year of work experience in instruction or industry is equivalent to one year of college degree work.)
  • Two or more references Northwest Energy Efficiency Council (NEEC) may contact who have observed the applicant provide instruction.
  • Familiarity with state and local codes and standards.
  • Willingness to travel to locations where BOC training is held.
  • Experience observing a BOC class in session.
  • A teaching certification, or evidence of participation in a “Train-the-Trainer” session within the last three years.
  • Training evaluation results from recently taught classes.
