Program Educational Objectives

Program Educational Objectives describe the career and professional accomplishments that graduates, after several years of experience, are prepared to achieve.

The educational objectives of the Welding Technology program are:

  1. Graduates will be well versed in both traditional welding technologies, including all major arc welding processes and the newest advancements in CNC and fabrication equipment. Math and science will be cornerstones for experimenting, testing, data analysis and problem solving with commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
  2. Interpersonal Skills – Graduates will be effective in their communication to ensure that they are relaying a clear message, will respect the viewpoints of others, and will be effective listeners when working as a member of a team.
  3. Professionalism – Graduates will display a strong work ethic and an attention to detail. In addition, graduates will exhibit personal and professional growth through their commitment to lifelong learning, as evidenced by professional society certification(s) and their ability to lead within a team.
  4. Awareness of Societal Impact – Graduates will be aware that their workplace decisions will impact the global community. With an ethical approach to their decision making, our graduates will be empathetic to others and contribute to the greater global good. Graduates will also recognize that a properly set-up process, procedure and technique produces quality welds, and quality welds keep people safe.
  5. Leadership Abilities – Graduates will understand the role of the worker and lead by example. They will be well versed in how to be a productive member of a team and work towards helping others understand the important details of the welding processes. Graduates will be comfortable teaching others and presenting welding and fabrication related information.
  6. Passion for the Trade – Graduates will be actively involved in welding technology and fabrication, and will find an area of expertise related to: assembly design; material weldability; welding procedure specification execution; welding process selection and implementation; training of welders; destructive and non-destructive examination; or welding automation and offline-programming.
