Building Construction Technology

BCT103 Construction Hand and Power Tools

Registered students with completed related course work from a technical or vocational high school may request to take BCT103 Construction Hand and Power Tools through credit-by-exam.

Registered students with prior work/life experience may also request to take BCT 103 through credit-by-exam.

Students must successfully pass the written exam for BCT 103 before attempting the hands-on portion.

Students must successfully pass the written and hands-on exam for BCT 103 prior to requesting to test BCT109 Framing Principles. The Department Head and the student will arrange a mutually agreeable time for the BCT 109 exam.

Complete the BCT 103 Credit-by-Exam Application and follow all guidelines.

Architecture and Sustainable Design

ACH135 Architectural Computer Aided Drafting

Registered students may apply to take ACH135 Architectural Computer Aided Drafting through credit-by-exam. A $50 nonrefundable fee must be paid prior to taking the exam with the exception of newly enrolling students.

Complete the ACH 135 Credit-by-Exam Application and follow all guidelines.

ACH128 Working Drawings-Residential

Opportunities also exist for students to test out of ACH128 Working Drawings – Residential. As this is a second semester course, students will be informed of the process in ACH 101 Introduction to Architecture.

A $50 nonrefundable fee must be paid prior to taking the exam.

PLH113 Mechanical Systems Design and Operation

ACR111 Introduction to Refrigeration

Registered students with completed related course work from a technical or vocational school or with prior industry experience may apply to take credit-by-exam for PLH113, Mechanical Systems Design and Operation or ACR111 Introduction to Refrigeration.

Complete the PLH 113 and/or ACR 111 Credit-by-Exam Application and follow all guidelines.

Credit for Work/Life Experience

A student requesting credit for work/life experience will be asked to document work and life experiences to show that the experiences are equal to the objectives established for the related Penn College course.

Contact the School of Construction and Design Technologies for the necessary application. Along with the completed application, you must submit:

  • a letter from your employer which outlines your job description, your daily activities, the number of hours you worked, and a statement indicating to what extent you have mastered the skills/competencies described in the course description (for the course for which you wish to receive credit);
  • portfolio documentation (may be requested);
  • a $50 non-refundable fee, payable at the Bursar’s Office.
A faculty committee will review all documentation and render a decision.
