Summer Camp

What is an aircraft made of? What materials make the magic happen and why are they used? Dive into all things aviation at this three-day summer camp. Get a taste of hands-on applications. Learn about composite and sheet metal materials used in the fabrication and repair of many aircraft structures. Try your hand at common repairs tackled by professional aviation mechanics like bending, forming, and riveting sheet metal. Perform preoperational inspections and learn the safety essentials of a gas turbine engine utilizing the College’s Boeing 727. Ready to test your aviation skills? Take our flight simulator for a ride.

Summer Camps

July 14-17, 2024

Age Group: Students entering grades 10-12

Fee: $375
Includes all activities, meals, and on-campus housing. This program includes an off-campus outing; participants will need to bring spending money for ice cream.

2024 registration opens April 1.

Field Trips/Special Events

Tentative

A field trip to Eagles Mere Auto and Air Museum is included in the program.

Please Bring

Long pants and closed-toed shoes are required during lab projects.

Aviation Workshops

Introduction to Composite Materials

Form an airfoil shape with a core material and reinforce it with composite material using industry practices.

Introduction to Sheet Metal

Design and form an airplane with aluminum materials using industry practices to experience how to cut, form, bend, and rivet sheet metal materials.

Drone Aircraft Operation

Learn the policies and procedures for safe operation of drone aircraft including an opportunity to practice on a flight simulator.

Here's how it works:

  • Complete a Summer Camp during the summer before entering 9-12 grade. 
  • Or better yet, come for two Summer Camps. Pick a different program the second time around or come for the same one twice. Each year we mix things up.
  • Attend Penn College and receive $1,000 off your tuition each year if you came for one camp. 
  • Or, get $2,000 off your tuition each year if you join us for two camps.
