Entrance at college’s athletics complex named for M&T Bank
Construction for the M&T Bank entrance gate is expected to begin soon and will be completed in time for the Fall 2019 athletic schedule.
Constructed of brick, stone and metal, the gate will be erected at the southwest corner of the complex, which is adjacent to the Penn College Field House.
M&T has partnered with Penn College for many years in a variety of ways:
- Philip H. Johnson, group vice president and president of M&T Bank’s Northern Pennsylvania region, serves on the Penn College Foundation Board of Directors.
- M&T Bank has supported the foundation’s annual Golf Classic for 31 consecutive years.
- Wilmington Trust, a subsidiary of M&T Bank, manages the investment portfolios of both the foundation and the college.
- M&T Bank previously established a scholarship supporting full-time students with financial need from any academic major at Penn College.
“We are grateful to our friends at M&T Bank for their steadfast commitment to Penn College and our students,” said Loni N. Kline, vice president for institutional advancement. “The M&T Bank Gate will provide a grand entrance to welcome our Wildcat Athletics fans, and we are honored to recognize their support in this special way.”
“M&T is pleased to support Penn College, one of the most innovative public institutions in the country,” said Philip Johnson, president of M&T Bank’s Northern Pennsylvania region. “As a community-focused bank, we support the mission of Penn College to provide comprehensive, hands-on technical education that empowers graduates for success.”
John D. Vandevere, Penn College’s director of athletics, said the new entrance will complement other recent enhancements to the athletic field complex, including the installation of an artificial turf field and a new scoreboard and press box.
“We are most grateful to M&T Bank for its generous support of Wildcat Athletics,” Vandevere said. “The M&T Bank gate will welcome our loyal fans and demonstrate to our student-athletes the ongoing commitment to athletics as a vital component of student life at Penn College.”
