Penn College's observance of
Black History Month continued this past week with a campus appearance by Valencia D. Clay, a middle school humanities teacher and author of "Soundless Cries Don't Lead to Healing: A Critical Guide to Cultural Consciousness." Her interactive presentation, held Thursday in the Thompson Professional Development Center and followed by a book-signing, challenged audience members to candidly assess how their unique experiences have shaped their perceptions of others. Other commemorative events included a showing of the Oscar-nominated documentary, "13th;" themed Quizzo competition and a Madigan Library table display. On tap for this week is the annual Soul Food Dinner from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Capitol Eatery, which will include a cooking demonstration, slam poetry, a dance competition and trivia.
