Wildcat Basketball Teams Have 1-1 Week

Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s basketball teams split in their games last week, but each was successful in its North Eastern Athletic Conference opener. The wrestling team, meanwhile, lost its only match.
Men’s Basketball
The Wildcats opened the week Wednesday with a 77-71 nonconference loss to Alfred State. As it had in its previous two games, Penn College led at the half only to falter at the finish. Kevin Laurence-El, of Milton, led Penn College with 26 points while Thomas Ross, of Williamsport, scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds. The Wildcats hit just 2 of 20 3-point shots and their bench players were outscored 48-16. Despite that, they were within a point at 64-63 with 2:47 remaining.
On Saturday against NEAC rival Wilson College, Penn College found itself down 44-31 at halftime but outscored the visitors 44-27 in the second half for a 75-71 victory and its first win of the season after four losses. Laurence-El topped Penn College scorers with 25 points while Ross added 15 points and Marquis Delgado, of Mansfield, scored 14. Laurence-El and Ross also each pulled down 12 rebounds. During their second-half comeback, the Wildcats tied the score at 58 and 69 before outscoring Wilson 6-2 over the final 1:25.
Women’s Basketball
Hosting Elmira College on Thursday, Penn College fell, 82-47. The score was tied three times during the first nine minutes before Elmira opened a 12-point lead at the half and extended it to as many as 35 during the second half. Jamie Steer, of South Williamsport, topped the Wildcats with 16 points.
Hosting Wilson College in its conference opener on Saturday, Penn College led from the start en route to an 80-51 win for its first victory against two overall losses. Alicia Ross, of Williamsport, scored 28 points while Steer added 16 points and Danielle Mowery, of Shamokin, scored 15 points. Steer and Mowery each hauled in nine rebounds.
Wrestling
Returning to action on the road Thursday, Penn College lost at King’s College, 45-9, to drop to 1-3 in dual meet matches. The Wildcats got their points on a win by decision from Tanner Leid, of Terre Hill, at 165 pounds and a win by forfeit at 174 by Dan Frankenfield, of Dushore.
