The public is invited to attend a night of food, fellowship and storytelling as Pennsylvania College of Technology kicks off Black History Month in February.

The college’s annual Soul Food Dinner – scheduled this year for 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, in Penn’s Inn on the second floor of the Bush Campus Center – will feature a performance by Joanna Maddox as Mae C. Jemison. Jemison, whose historic voyage on the Space Shuttle Endeavor in September 1992 is the inspiration for Maddox’s storytelling, was the first African-American female astronaut to ever travel into space.

Astronaut Mae Jemison, as portrayed by Joanna MaddoxAdmission is free for Penn College students with a valid ID; student tickets are available at the Campus Center Information Desk on the college’s main campus. Tickets for faculty/staff ($5) and the general public ($10) will go on sale there at 10 a.m. Jan. 20.

The menu will feature pork short ribs, fried catfish, shrimp and grits, red beans and rice, macaroni and cheese, yams, collard greens, cornbread, banana pudding, pecan pie bars, sweet tea and lemonade.
