The start of the year brings a first for Pennsylvania College of Technology: the selection of twin brothers as Students of the Month.

Chosen for the Student Government Association honor are Cody E. Buterbaugh, a building automation technology major, and Zachary J. Buterbaugh, an accounting student. Originally from Conestoga, both are scheduled to graduate in May.

Zachary J. (left) and Cody E. Buterbaugh"Each is an individual in his own right, but, with such similar accomplishments, I could not nominate one over the other," wrote a faculty member who taught both brothers in class.

Cody is a Senior Resident Assistant for Clinton, Delaware and Juniata halls; a member of the Phi Theta Kappa associate-degree honor society; president of Alpha Chi, the honor society for four-year students; a member of the Wildcat baseball team; and a part-time intramural assistant at the Field House. A former electrical tutor, he has already secured a job with the Trane Corp. in Rochester, N.Y.

Zachary is an RA in College West; president of the Penn College Accounting Society and the Delta Mu Delta business honor society; a member of Alpha Chi and the Student Managed Investment Fund; a tax preparer for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program; and captain of the baseball team.

"As you read their qualifications, you can understand why I can't nominate just one of these identical twins for the award," the faculty member said. "They both display a strong sense of commitment and dedication to their academic work. They always have a positive attitude and a mature conscientiousness in the classroom. Besides having an excellent work ethic, they are energetic and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. They are excellent role models for the college community. Their enthusiasm is contagious. They are model campus leaders, as well as learners."

Student of the Month recognition is bestowed numerous times each academic year based on commitment, service, role-model behavior, academics, leadership and campus involvement. Nominations from faculty/staff and other students are strongly encouraged.
