Penn College Commencement Ceremonies Set for May 17-18

Three commencement ceremonies will be held May 17-18 for the nearly 900 Pennsylvania College of Technology students who have petitioned to graduate following the Spring 2013 semester.
All ceremonies will be conducted in the Community Arts Center, Williamsport.
At 3 p.m. Friday, May 17, a ceremony will be offered for students from the schools of Business and Computer Technologies, Hospitality, and Transportation Technology.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, a ceremony will be held for students from the schools of Industrial and Engineering Technologies, Integrated Studies, and Natural Resources Management. At 1:30 p.m. that day, a ceremony will be offered for students from the schools of Construction and Design Technologies and Health Sciences.
The student speaker for the May 17 ceremony is Kierstin G. Steer, of South Williamsport, who will receive a bachelor’s degree in technology management. She earned an associate degree in physical fitness specialist in 2011.
A Dean’s List student, Steer is a two-time U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association All-American in women’s soccer and a multiple Penn State University Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honoree. She has served as captain for both the Wildcat soccer and basketball teams at Penn College, and is the all-time leading scorer for women's basketball. Steer is also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and serves as a YMCA youth basketball referee.
The student speaker for the 10 a.m. ceremony on May 18 is Kyle S. Mullin, of Pottsville, who will receive a bachelor’s degree in welding and fabrication engineering technology.
A Dean’s List student, Mullin’s activities at Penn College include senator and executive vice president, Student Government Association; Senior Resident Assistant for Residence Life and recipient of its first “Always Hallways” honors; Student of the Month Committee chairman; College Judicial Council member; and Sigma Nu Fraternity member.
The student speaker for the 1:30 p.m. ceremony on May 18 is Jonathan M. Probst, of Allison Park, who will receive a bachelor’s degree in residential construction technology and management. Probst earned an associate degree in building construction technology in 2011.
Probst, a Dean’s List student, is a Senior Resident Assistant and was named Rising Star of the Year by Residence Life. He received Penn College Student of the Month honors in January. He is a member of the Penn College Construction Association and the National Association of Home Builders student chapter at the college. Probst was the recipient of an American Infrastructure Scholarship award (2010-13), and he will be presented with a West Branch Susquehanna Builders Association Award before commencement.
During the commencement ceremonies, the college will bestow Alumni Achievement and Mentorship awards, and Distinguished Teaching Awards will be presented to faculty.
Degrees will be conferred by Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour, assisted by Board of Directors Chairman Robert A. Secor.
