Pennsylvania College of Technology basketball teams split as they closed out calendar year 2012 – the women winning and the men losing on Monday. Both teams now are idle until Jan. 12, when the wrestling squad also steps back into action.

Women’s Basketball
Hosting Luzerne County Community College, the Wildcats got a 19-point, 10-rebound performance from Jamie Steer, of South Williamsport, in a 69-61 win that hiked the team’s overall record to 6-5. Also for Penn College, Mackenzie Brown, of Lititz, added 14 points and Steer’s older sister, Kierstin, scored 10. An 8-0 run to close out the first half, with six of the points from Jamie Steer, gave the Wildcats a lead they never relinquished.

Men’s Basketball
Facing Rochester (Mich.) College, ranked No. 1 in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Coaches’ Poll, Penn College fell, 94-56, despite a personal season-high 15-point scoring performance from Nathanial Brown, of Philadelphia. Brown hit 7 of his 10 shots from the floor, including 3 of 4 from beyond the 3-point line. Christopher Carrington, of Ridley Park, added 10 points as the Wildcats dropped to 1-11 overall.
