Penn College Fall Sports Teams Face Key Outings This Week

Six Pennsylvania College of Technology golfers will vie for individual and team honors Monday and Tuesday in the Penn State University Athletic Conference and United States Collegiate Athletic Association championships. Taking to the Penn State University Blue Course will be seniors Eric Schall (Jersey Shore), Dean Bell (Schwenksville), junior Kurt Linhart (Zionsville), sophomore Dan Kramer (Avon, Conn.) and freshmen Chad Vuocolo (Lock Haven) and Alex Howe (Lake Ariel). Also this week, the college's two-time defending PSUAC championship tennis team faces a key match Tuesday at No. 1Penn StateYork, which has lost just once in conference play this season, and the men's soccer team goes up against arch-rival and defending champPenn State-York on Saturday.

FLASHBACK Cross-Country Freshman Jake Shedden (Canton) shattered the Albright course record on Saturday, turning in a time of 27 minutes, 27 seconds, and the Wildcat men finished second to the host team in a five-team meet. Shedden's time bettered the old mark of 27:34 set by Paul Santuoso of Catholic University. Penn College's Tamara Pavlov placed third among women runners in 27:30 over a shorter course.

Men's Soccer On Saturday, Tristan Smith (Bermuda) scored two goals in a 3-1 Homecoming win over Penn State New Kensington. In the Week 3 USCAA Coaches' Poll, Penn College jumped from No. 6 to No. 3. The Wildcats (11-2 overall and 7-0 in the PSUAC) hold first place in the conference with a two-game edge over Penn State Beaver. For the second week in a row, a Penn College player was honored by the USCAA, as Chris Brennan (New Hope) was co-player of the week for Sept. 27-Oct. 3 when he scored five goals, including two game-winners and two two-goal games as the Wildcats went 3-0.

Women's Soccer Erin Oberlin (New Berlin) scored two goals as Penn College evened its record at 4-4 with a 4-0 win over Salem International University on Saturday.

Team Tennis The Wildcats posted their sixth straight win on Thursday, 5-4 overPenn StateMont Alto, and, on Saturday, extended their streak to seven, against just two losses, with a 7-2 victory overPenn StateLehigh. Against Lehigh, Rob Kemrer (Milton) won both his singles and doubles matches. Penn College is in second place in the PSUAC, one game behind Penn State York.

Women's Volleyball On Thursday, Penn College knocked offPenn StateScranton in three games. Freshman Lindsay Moyer (Canton) notched seven kills and four service aces, sophomore Tara Powell (Burgettstown) added seven kills and two digs, freshman Samantha Davis (North Apollo) had four blocks and five kills and junior Lyndsey Smith (Mechanicsburg) had 20 assists. On Saturday, the Wildcats lost toPenn StateBeaver, 3-2, and beatPenn StateGreater Allegheny, 3-0. Moyer tallied 15 kills and Lyndsey Smith (Mechanicsburg) had 42 assists. The Wildcats are ranked No. 15 in the most recent USCAA Coaches' Poll. After Saturday's matches in the PSUAC, Penn College (12-5 overall and 9-2 in the conference) was in second place, tied withPenn StateDuBois 2 1/2 games behind leadingPenn StateMont Alto.
