Penn College Closely Monitoring Swine-Flu Situation

Pennsylvania College of Technology has been monitoring the swine-flu news since this past weekend through the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control, the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Lycoming County Department of Public Safety. There now have been 66 cases of the swine flu in the United States (believed to have originated in Mexico). To date, there have been no reported cases in Pennsylvania or at Penn College. The college will continue to monitor the situation closely and will update the campus community as needed.
There are everyday actions people can take to stay healthy.
- Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people
- If you get sick, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners also are effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
