Penn College Commencement to Be Held Dec. 20

Pennsylvania College of Technology will hold a Winter Commencement ceremony Saturday, Dec. 20, for the nearly 425 students who have petitioned to graduate this month.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in the Community Arts Center, Williamsport.
The student speaker will be John T. Lipko, of Mifflinburg, who will be awarded a bachelor's degree in technology management from the School of Business and Computer Technologies.
Among his many college activities, Lipko has served as a Student Ambassador, president of Penn College student chapter of IEEE (Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers), treasurer of the student chapter of ISA (the Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society), a "Link" for the "Connections" summer-orientation program, a member of the College Town Committee and the Wildcat Welcome Team, and a student orientation leader.
His community-service involvement includes the Susquehanna 500 Mini-Indy race benefiting the American Red Cross, Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army Thrift Store and an alternative spring-break trip to help rebuild areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
Also speaking will be Dr. William B. Urosevich, associate professor of biology/anatomy and physiology, who received the college's highest level of recognition for a faculty member − the Veronica M. Muzic Master Teacher Award in May.
Urosevich, who also received an Excellence in Teaching Award in 1997, began his full-time teaching career at Penn College in 1993. He received a doctor of optometry degree with clinical honors from Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Philadelphia.
He holds a Master of Science degree in system management − with a concentration in statistical models, operations research and Markovian models − from the University of Southern California. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Wilkes University. He is a graduate of the U.S. Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
During the ceremony, Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour will present an Alumni Citizenship/Humanitarian Award on behalf of the college. She will be joined by Robert E. Dunham, chairman of the Penn College Board of Directors, as she confers degrees and certificates upon the graduates.
