Mark D. NoeMark D. Noe, a professor of English-composition at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently published a memoir essay in Spitball: The Literary Baseball Magazine.

His essay, titled "Pilgrimage," is grounded in "Shoeless Joe" by W.P. Kinsella, a book that became the movie "Field of Dreams." The essay was published in the magazine's "The Memory Game" section.

Noe read an earlier version of the essay, a memorial to his father, at the Sport Literature Association's conference hosted at Penn College in 2004.

Spitball, published biannually, includes baseball poetry, short fiction, prose, art and book reviews.

The Sport Literature Association is an international organization devoted to the study of sport in literature and culture. It is an affiliate of the American Literature Association.

Noe holds a doctorate from the University of Illinois. He also earned degrees from Sangamon State University and Bradley University.
