Penn College Baseball Team Set for Playoffs

"We've got to take one game at a time," Rees Daneker, coach of the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team, said after learning his club is going to the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference playoffs after all.
The Wildcats (8-6 overall) dropped a doubleheader against Delaware County Community College on Tuesday and needed Delaware to sweep Bucks County Community College on Wednesday in order to reach the postseason. That's exactly what happened, and, now, Penn College will travel to Northampton for Saturday's one-day single-elimination tournament.
Going into the 10 a.m. semifinal game against Northampton, Daneker said, "I'll throw anybody and anything at them at this point. And, if we can get hot with the bats, they could be in trouble."
During their regular season meeting, Penn College split with regular-season champ Northampton, losing 7-0 and winning 7-1.
Tyler Cullen (New Fairfield), who got the earlier pitching win against Northampton, will get the starting nod Saturday. In the other semifinal, at 1 p.m., Delaware CCC and Lehigh Carbon Community College will square off. Semifinal winners will meet at 4 p.m. for the championship. During the regular season, all EPCC games were seven innings. In the tournament they will be nine.
"You throw everything into the kitchen sink and who knows?" Daneker said. "Stranger things have happened. As long as the guys believe they can (win), they will. I think they had a hard time believing they were good. Once we get them believing they are good, there's no telling where we can go. Baseball is a game of the mind," Daneker added.
