Aviation Students Granted C-17 Walk-Through
An Air Force C-17 arrived at Williamsport Regional Airport on Thursday, affording Penn College aviation students the opportunity to tour the aircraft and interact with its crew. The newest cargo aircraft in the Air Force's inventory, the C-17 designed for rapid delivery of troops and cargo to main operating bases or directly to forward bases in a military deployment area. The C-17 is approximately 174 feet long with a 170-foot wingspan, and is powered by four fully reversible Pratt & Whitney F117-PW-100 engines similar to those on the Boeing 757. There is no roomon the airport parking ramp for such a large aircraft, so it is parked on Runway 12, in front of Penn College's Lumley Aviation Center at the Montoursville facility.
