Welding Students Awarded AWS Foundation National Scholarships

Two students in the bachelor-degree welding major at Pennsylvania College of Technology are among 14 nationwide who have been awarded 2003-04 scholarships through the American Welding Society's AWS Foundation National Scholarship Program.

William C. Brownlee, Jackson Center, and Philip N. Wiegand, Manheim, will receive scholarship grants of at least $2,500 for their courses of study related to the welding and joining industry.

Both are students in the Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology major in the School of Industrial and Engineering Technologies at Penn College. Brownlee is the recipient of the AWS Foundation's Jerry Robinson-Inweld Corporation Scholarship. Wiegand is the recipient of the foundation's William B. Howell Memorial Scholarship.

The AWS Foundation was established by the American Welding Society in 1989 to support programs that promote the growth and development of the welding industry through research and educational opportunities.

Founded in 1919, the American Welding Society is a nonprofit organization that seeks to advance the science, technology and application of welding and related joining disciplines.
