Morgan Valley Springhouse
Morgan Valley Springhouse

Armstrong, David

Painting depicts a springhouse located on the College's 440-acre Morgan Valley property. When this piece was painted in 1992, the log-bank structure springhouse (circa 1840) was the only structure still standing in what was once a community of prosperous mountain farms.

Woman with Roofers
Woman with Roofers

Burke, David

Black & White photographic print with woman in foreground and house with roofers in background. Photograph was part of series "The Neighborhood Project", 2006. Artist's description: The photographs on display are part of a six-week project completed this spring to "reintroduce" me to my 4 x 5 field camera. I decided to get back to my roots and use film, chemicals and a wet darkroom. The digital world dominates the commercial work I am involved in and I wanted to get away from computer manipulation, get my hands wet and see the image appear slowly in the developer. I packed my camera and took a ride when the light was interesting; either on an overcast day or late in the evening. Simply, I drove around until I saw someone outside or knocked on a door and asked if I might make a photograph. No warning, no appointment, no arrangement; just people as they were at the moment. Almost all photographs were made less than 5 miles from my home. All were made with a Wista 4 x 5 camera, made of cherry wood and brass. A Schneider 120 mm lens was used throughout. Kodak T-max film and Ilford RC paper were also used. - David Burke, August 9, 2006

The Fool's Journey
The Fool's Journey

Cohen, Brian

"The Fool's Journey" is a book of twenty-three etchings modeled on the major arcana of the traditional tarot deck. the tarot originated in the Renaissance as a form of cosmography, a visual illustration of a philosophical world-view. Each card presents an archetype of human experience illuminated through a parallel, symbolic element or quality of the physical world. The progression of cards in sequence represents a journey of discovery , awareness, and insight, from the blindness of the Fool (number 0) to the spiritual illumination of the World (number 21).

Collaboration
Collaboration

Gilmour, Fred

Commissioned in recognition of the 10th anniversary of Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour as president of Pennsylvania College of Technology. This piece represents collaboration and collegiality on the part of an administrative team. It embodies the give and take, the polishing and redirecting of ideas, and the willingness to explore numerous concepts to create a meaningful, cohesive outcome. The addition of color, texture and reflectivity allow for visual interest, and are representative of the occasional divergent idea that seems not to fit, but ultimately has great influence on the final result. Looks Like Trouble
Looks Like Trouble

Hunter, Ken

"Looks like Trouble" by Ken Hunter was commissioned by The Williamsport Area Community College, Inc. to be reproduced as part of a series of limited edition reproductions to be sold to the public. "Looks like Trouble" description: Black bear cubs are born during the coldest periods of the year, usually in January, and weigh less than 8 ozs. Bear cubs have a phenomenal growth rate and by fall they have reached a weight of about 60 lbs. Just like human babies, black bear cubs have a tremendous capacity for creating turmoil out of an otherwise orderly situation. Their curiousity outstrips their growth rate and on more than one occassion Mamma has to bail the youngsters out of a tight spot. This original oil painting was reproduced and sold as a signed and numbered limited edition print of 350. The copy was printed on 140 lb. 100% rag paper. The image size was 16 1/8 x 20 1/4".

Camelot—Kilchurn Castle, Lock Awe, Scottish Highlands. The ruins of Kilchurn Castle inhabit a rocky spit of land, formerly an island, at the head of Loch Awe. Abandoned for centuries, it is reminiscent of Camelots past and present. While shrouded in somber hues, a burst of sunlight cleaves the dooming darkness and reflects a shining hope.

Title: Infinite Possibilities Philadelphia-based artist Antonio Puri participated in a one-week on-campus residency in October 2010. Pennsylvania College of Technology students from 39 academic majors collected items and created representations of each major utilizing recycled wooden cigar boxes. Individually, the small sculptures symbolize the coexistence of art and technology; together as a group, the sculptures show the interconnectedness of us all. Student from various programs painted the 100 small canvases that unify the installation.

Schreiber, Georges

Label on Back of Print: A Limited Edition Signed Original Lithograph By Georges Schreiber. Briefly concerning the artist -- When thirty-five year old Georges Schreiber came tot he United States from his native Belgium nine years ago he was so grateful to this country for the opportunities offered him that he travelled into each of the 48 states on the monumental task of recording in 48 paintings his impression of each of the states. Schreiber probably knows America today better than most native artists. Winner of the Tuthill Prize of the International Exhibition of Water Colors at the Chicago Art Institute in 1932, Schreiber has taken rapid strides to reach the highest rank in water color and oil painting. He has acheived recognition of our museums and now is included in collections of Whitney Museum, the Metropolitan Museum, Syracuse Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Museum of the City of New York. Author of "Portraits and Self-Portraits," Schreiber caught American public characters in rapid sketches. Schreiber is the artist who executed the magnificent illustrations for "Little Man, What Now." Shipley, Roger

The earliest plexiglass pieces involve the interrelationship between primary simplified forms. Circles and squares of various sizes were worked together to form the visual components of the sculpture. The plexiglass pieces incorporate mirrored surfaces to enhance the visual space within the sculpture and to involve the viewer and the surrounding setting within the reflections of the piece. There is a strong emphasis placed on figure-ground forms and their integration through color and shape.

Tall, Cheryl

Cheryl Tall’s sculpture unites architectural and figurative images, portraying the house as dwelling, shelter, temple, dynasty, prison, castle, fortress, retreat, or nest. By using windows as eyes, shingles as hair, and heads topped with an animal or an house, Tall animates the piece and gives it personality. By using meticulous clay techniques to create a complex surface, such as pinching, coiling, stacking, carving, stamping, scraffito, applique and color layering, Tall draws the viewer in.
