Federal Student Loan Information

Federal student loan payments and collections are suspended and interest rates are set to 0% from March 13, 2020 through 60 days after the U.S. Department of Education is permitted to implement its Student Debt Relief program or the litigation regarding that program is resolved. If not resolved by June 30, 2023, loan payments will resume 60 days after that date. Learn more from the Federal Student Aid (FSA) site.

The Biden-Harris Administration's Student Debt Relief Plan, announced on August 24, 2022, provides Federal Direct Loan borrowers with up to $20,000 in debt cancellation for prior Federal Pell Grant recipients, and up to $10,000 in debt cancellation to Federal Direct Loan borrowers who were not Pell Grant recipients. Court orders have temporarily blocked the Debt Relief program. There were also temporary changes (which expired on October 31, 2022) to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Learn more about the Debt Relief Plan from this Federal Student Aid site.
