This major will prepare students for matriculation into a graduate degree program for healthcare professionals at Penn College or other higher education institutions or entry into non-direct patient care careers in allied health and healthcare settings. The courses in the final two semesters of the curriculum must be completed via distance education with the possible exception of the directed health science electives, some of which are offered on campus.
Effective Fall 2021
This major will prepare students for entering the workforce in a variety of allied health and healthcare settings, including but not limited to, health care administration, laboratory science, public health, healthcare education, medical research, in the medical equipment, and pharmaceutical industry, and within health insurance and government agencies. A matriculating student should be prepared for entry into many graduate degree programs in a variety of healthcare fields for example, physician assistant studies, medicine, dentistry, optometry, public health, healthcare administration, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. Refer to desired graduate school to determine if additional coursework is needed.
Recommended High School Subjects
Because of the strong emphasis on science and math in this major, applicants are encouraged to complete and have a strong academic performance in three high school math courses and three high school science courses, which include at least one biology course with a lab and a chemistry course with a lab.
All incoming students must meet placement requirements in math. Students are expected to remediate any deficiencies as explained in the College Catalog (see https://www.pct.edu/catalog/admissions-policy).
This major is subject to the transfer standards established by the College (see https://www.pct.edu/admissions/transfer/transferring-credits). Exceptions must be approved by the school dean.
International health credentials/licensure, science courses, and most math courses will not be accepted to satisfy requirements of this major. Please see additional information for international students applying to the School of Nursing & Health Sciences majors.
