Fundamentals of Nutrition
Emphasis on the importance of nutrition in all aspects of a patient’s life and significance that nurses have in this role. Topics include the principles of nutrition by understanding the different nutrients and their uses, nutrition of health promotion through guidelines for healthy eating, nutritional needs spanning from infancy to the elderly, and nutrition as it relates to clinical nursing practice. Medical nutrition therapy and nutritional strategies will be examined as it relates to patients’ care from an array of disease states, such as obesity, respiratory disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, cardiovascular disease, kidney disorders, diabetes mellitus and cancer. 3 Credits (3 Lecture) Prerequisite(s): CHM108 and NUR232 and NUR288 or CHM111 and NUR232 and NUR288 or CHM100 and NUR232 and NUR288 or NUR232 and NUR288 and NUR304.
