Construction Lab I - Residential


Introduction to residential wiring, plans, specifications, and codes. Theory and lab assignments covering procedures for wiring basic lighting and receptacle circuits, installing special purpose circuits and switching circuits, and producing accurate wiring diagrams. Blueprint reading and the understanding and utilization of the National Electrical Code (NEC) are strongly emphasized in the course. 5 Credits (3 Lecture - 6 Lab) Corequisite(s): ELT111 or RET111.

Electrical Practices in Industry


Introduction to basic wiring, plans, specifications, electrical installation and troubleshooting. Theory and lab assignments will relate to electrical system installation and application focusing on NFPA79, UL508A, and NFPA 70 standards. 4 Credits (3 Lecture - 3 Lab) Corequisite(s): ELT111.

Construction Lab II-Commercial


Theory and laboratory assignments in commercial wiring, blueprint reading, and N.E.C. as it applies to commercial circuits. Students will plan, layout, and install circuits and devices used in commercial buildings. 5 Credits (3 Lecture - 6 Lab) Prerequisite(s): ELT116.

Alternating Current Fundamentals


Fundamental principles of the behavior and flow of alternating current electricity. Includes problem solving current, voltage, impedance, reactance and power factor in series and parallel circuits. Familiarization with the above principles help to form a better understanding of the operating principles of AC motors, generators, and control equipment. 5 Credits (4 Lecture - 3 Lab) Prerequisite(s): ELT111. Electrical Drawing and Print Reading


An introduction to preparation and interpretation of residential and commercial electrical drawings, diagrams, and schematics. Provides an introduction to computer aided drawing, orthographic projection, and sectional views. Included is the interpretation of construction drawings, symbols, wiring diagrams, schedules, notation, technical information, and specifications used on drawings.  2 Credits (1 Lecture - 3 Lab)

Applied Industrial Networking Essentials


The introduction to basic personal computer hardware, the operating system, the OSI, TCP/IP models, local area networks, basic network security and Program Logic Controller network interfacing. The essential principles of installation and configuration of both local area networks and Program Logic Controller interfacing on a local area network will be the focus of this course. 2 Credits (1 Lecture - 3 Lab) Prerequisite(s): ELT235 or ELT228. Fundamental Electronics and Controls


Study of process control systems and the related theories that govern the use of electronic intelligence to control a physical process. Topics cover electronic intelligence theory as it applies to microcontrollers and basic language programming as well as the elements of the physical process, including the electronic components such as diodes, transistors, thyristors, LEDs and, optical switches. Fundamentals of Electronics for BBT


Basic electronics study designed to meet the needs of HVAC and transfer students that lack the background needed to complete the Building Automation Technology (BBT) major. Construction Lab IV-Practical Experience

Introduction to Programmable Logic Control


Introductory course in the understanding, programming and operation of programmable logic control and the utilization of such controls as an aid to effective production and quality control processes for production-line industrial control systems. Electrical Machinery Analysis

Electrical Systems Analysis


Lecture and laboratory instruction to provide a comprehensive program through laboratory experiments and report writing to master the principle and operation of machines and devices that generate, transform and use electrical power. 3 Credits (2 Lecture - 3 Lab) Prerequisite(s): ELT122. Programmable Logic Control Input/Output Devices


Study providing a foundation in industrial automation and control (input/output devices). Specific product experience with several I/O devices includes, but is not limited to, the use of sensors, final control elements, operator interfaces, and variable frequency drives. Study includes the principals, methods, and rationale for combining remote sensing and actuation with modern communication techniques to effectively monitor and control industrial processes. HVAC/R Electricity


Basics of AC and DC circuits, the use of electrical meters, reading electrical diagrams, electrical distribution systems in residential and commercial buildings and the installation of electrical equipment. Sections of the National Electrical Code are also studied. Hands-on work is carried out in the lab portion of the course. 5 Credits (3 Lecture - 6 Lab)

HVAC Controls I-Residential


Installation and operation of residential line and low voltage controls used to control warm air heating, air conditioning, and heat pump applications. Solid state residential control systems are also covered. 4 Credits (3 Lecture - 3 Lab) Prerequisite(s): ELT250.

HVAC Controls II-Commercial


Basic control theory and control terms, hydronic heat control, electrical control systems including economizer control reset, and proportional control. The course also covers introductory pneumatic control and electronic and direct digital control of single zone systems. 4 Credits (3 Lecture - 3 Lab) Prerequisite(s): ELT252.

Industrial Power and Control Systems


Use of transformers in industrial power supply systems, theory and operations of motors, motor drives, and the devices used to control them. An emphasis will be placed on technical report writing. 4 Credits (3 Lecture - 3 Lab) Prerequisite(s): ELT235 or ELT228.

Electrical Estimating


Techniques for standard construction estimating procedures from take-off to bid, in electrical construction applications. Topics introduced include preparation of the typical quantity take-off and estimated cost recording documents and techniques, as well as preparation and presentation of formal bidding document. Course work includes presentation of an actual estimate. 3 Credits (3 Lecture) Prerequisite(s): ELT120 and ELT130.

Electrical Contractor Business Management


Fundamentals of planning, scheduling, managing an electrical business for the contractor, with emphasis on small business principles to complete projects on time and within budget. Components of Ethics, Accounting, Finance, Business & Human Resource Management and applicable software will be explored. Also included is an examination of construction management practices as applied by the electrical contractor, including the interrelationship between architects, suc-contractors, and others in the labor force. 3 Credits (3 Lecture) Prerequisite(s): ELT255.

Power Generation System Controls


Intensive instruction in troubleshooting, schematic diagram reading, servicing and repair of power generation system controls. Lecture discussions and laboratory applications will focus on generator operation, paralleling and the role that switch gear and governors play in power generation systems. In class discussion of reading assignments, assist students in understanding specialized devices such as reverse power relays, volt-amp reactive (VAR) power factor controllers, and other circuit protection controls. 3 Credits (2 Lecture - 3 Lab) Prerequisite(s): ELT122. Industrial Electrical Systems


An overview of electrical systems common to industrial settings. Topics covered include single and three-phase voltage systems, electrical controls, basic ladder logic and programmable logic control systems.
