The Art of Floral Design


Elective for those who wish to develop an appreciation of the history and art of floral design, and an appreciation and the application of the basic design principles used in many other forms of artistic expression and artistically enhanced professions. Study includes floral design dating back to the 10th Century BC in early Chinese and Egyptian civilizations, through the development of European civilizations, to the modern era and the use of floral art currently in Japan, Europe, United States, and throughout the world. Exploration, through a hands-on study in floral design techniques, the use and application of such important basic elements of design as: color, texture, balance, scale, rhythm, unity, and proportion as well as the psychological impact of flowers and plants, not only on that of the individual, but also on society as a whole.
