Theory and application of electronic health records, information systems and life cycle. Topics include development, implementation, and management of electronic health records (EHR) systems, including following topics: challenges to adoption; goal setting and impact on quality; strategic planning for the migration path; health care process assessment; assessment of functional needs, data infrastructure, and information technology and systems infrastructure; analysis of return on investment for expenditures; selection and contract negotiation; project management; system implementation and ongoing maintenance; acute care applications; and the growing momentum toward health information exchange.
