Honda Automotive Fundamentals and Dealership Operations

Introductory theory and practical operation of various Honda automotive systems, including fuel and controls, electrical, engine, drive train, transmission, heating and cooling. Topics include shop safety, hybrid vehicle safety, pre-delivery service, basic maintenance, lubrication, and minor repairs as well as the use of service manuals, charts, and diagrams. Skills developed include using measuring instruments and tools, as well as fasteners and fittings, tubing, and hydraulic lines. Introduction to the Honda dealership operation and job functions. Topics include customer satisfaction, management, departments, and individual job roles. 5 Credits (3 Lecture - 6 Lab) Prerequisite(s): Placement by Examination or MTH004 and Placement by Examination or RDG001. Honda Brake Systems

Fundamentals of Honda Hydraulic brake systems, including theory and service of braking systems, system components, system operation, troubleshooting, adjustments, and repair. Honda Electrical I

Honda electrical fundamentals, including wiring diagrams and instrumentation. Emphasis on the fundamentals, troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing of electrical circuit systems and components. Honda Automotive Engines, Diagnosis, Overhaul and Repair

HAD150

Honda engine theory and operation, including engine disassembly, inspection, repair, replacement, measurement, and reassembly. Study and practical application of the procedures, techniques, and special equipment used to diagnose engine problems relating to oil consumption, engine noise, power loss, the lubrication system, and the cooling system. 4 Credits (2 Lecture - 6 Lab) Prerequisite(s): Placement by Examination or MTH004 and Placement by Examination or RDG001. Honda Electrical II

Principles of operation, diagnosis, and repair of Honda automotive electrical accessories, including those controlled using conventional electrical components and those controlled by computers. Specific systems include lighting circuits, windshield wiper/washer circuits, horn, power seats, power mirrors, power windows and door locks, supplemental restraint systems, keyless entry, instrumentation, and speed control. Emphasis on accessing pertinent service information, interpreting wiring diagrams to analyze circuits, troubleshooting circuits, and using scan tools in the diagnosis of computer-controlled electrical accessories. 6 Credits (4 Lecture - 6 Lab) Prerequisite(s): HAD140 and Placement by Examination or HAD140 and MTH005. Honda Steering and Suspension

Honda Gasoline, CNG and Hybrid Fuel and Emission Systems

HAD230

Honda engine performance analysis and basic tune-up procedures. Operation and troubleshooting of the Honda PGM FI engine management system, including emission controls, ignition, and engine controls. Topics include the purpose and performance of computerized engine control systems, theory of operation, service, troubleshooting, and repair. Review fundamentals of compressed natural gas and hybrid technologies. 5 Credits (3 Lecture - 6 Lab) Prerequisite(s): Placement by Examination or MTH004 and Placement by Examination or RDG001. Honda Heating and Air Conditioning

Theory and operation of Honda air conditioning systems. Topics include proper diagnosis and servicing techniques, including recycling and handling of refrigerants and retrofitting of vehicles from R-12 to R-134A refrigerant. Operational theory, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of Honda transmission and drive train components.
