Classroom theory will cover basic polymer science (including what is a polymer), morphology, rheology, properties, and characteristics (how they change processing conditions). Material testing will be discussed as it pertains to collecting and using relevant data when making product desisions. Lab sessions will focus on basic machine functions and how polymer characteristics affect processing. Lab sessions will include hands-on extrusion, injection molding, thermoforming, and rotational molding. The goal of the course is to act as a primer for anyone who wishes to begin gaining an understanding of how polymers work and how a polymer's unique chemical makeup will change how it processes and performs as a product.
