Essential Skills training is designed to benefit frontline employees and first-level supervisors by building on the skills required for the employee's job. Employers must be manufacturing or technology-based* businesses, including biotech and environmental tech companies.
An Essential Skills training grant may provide reimbursement of training costs up to $450 per qualified employee (at a maximum of $75,000 per company).
In-house company training is permitted.

- Business operations
- Communication & teamwork
- Manufacturing fundamentals
- Blueprint reading
- Machine setup & maintenance
- Tool, grinding
- Welding, soldering
- Problem solving
- Product & process control
- Quality assurance
- Sales training
- Workplace behavior skills
- Workplace health & safety
On-the-job and company orientation is not eligible for reimbursement.
Funds may not be used for adult literacy activities, including English as a Second Language. WEDnetPA partners may collaborate with Adult Literacy Service providers to address workplace literacy needs as appropriate.
*Technology-based business is defined as one that produces or provides a technology product or service.
