The Mathematics Department includes faculty members whose degrees and experience extend beyond mathematics and mathematics education to disciplines that include physics, computer science, logistics, economics, business management, applied statistics, accounting, actuarial science, instructional technology, educational administration, political science, communication, and English. A very dynamic and versatile group, the faculty has a median of 20 years teaching or other related full-time work and all belong to at least one professional organization such as the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC), the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the American Mathematical Society (AMS), the American Statistical Association (ASA), and the National Association for Developmental Education (NADE).

I have worked full-time at Penn College since August 2007. Before that, I was a high school mathematics teacher at Hughesville High School and Twin Valley High School.

I enjoy teaching mathematics in a manner that develops students' critical thinking and problem solving abilities where they can adapt and apply this knowledge to their disciplines and life in general. The students not only learn from me but I learn a great deal from them as well as Penn College offers a wide array of "hands-on" majors and "degrees that work".

M.B.S. and M.S. in Mathematics/Statistics - University of Colorado

B.A. in Psychology - University of Illinois

I came to Penn College in 2009 after 30 years of teaching secondary mathematics in Colorado. In addition to teaching here, I am studying mathematics education at Penn State University. My area of research is developmental college mathematics. My favorite saying is "It is OK to not know something. Whatever the topic, nobody knew it before they learned it. We are all in the process of learning."

Each day I enjoy the opportunity to assist students as they pursue their goals and dreams. A friend who was interviewing to become a high school teacher once told me he had learned the correct answer to the question "What do you teach?" The answer was - and remains - students. No matter our fields or specialties, we teach students. It is the understanding, knowledge, and ultimate success of my students that inspires me.

I have been involved in either teaching and/or administration for over 43 years. Throughout that time, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of students of various mathematical backgrounds (from extreme math anxiety to those gifted in the subject) and grade levels (from 7th grade through graduate students). My career journey has taken me to a variety of institutions, which has helped to enhance my background and understanding of student challenges in order to help them better come to an appreciation of mathematics. I very much look forward to opportunities to work with students and help them to garner a deeper appreciation, mastery, and application of mathematics.
