Tips

  • Review, follow, and utilize the syllabus for each course.
  • Attend every class. Make it a habit.
  • Establish a daily routine that includes when you need to wake up and when you plan to go to sleep.

Tasks

  • Create a weekly checklist to track due dates for projects and assignments.
  • If you have not done so already, contact Disability and Access Resources to discuss accommodations.
  • Visit the Financial Aid office if you have any unresolved concerns.

Advice from your LEAP Advisers

  • Homesickness is natural. If your feelings about home, however, are affecting your ability to be successful, go to Counseling Services to make an appointment to speak with someone. Sometimes, that may be all you need.
  • Find a sense of belonging by engaging and getting to know others.
  • Drop by the LEAP Center for walk-in hours for assistance with navigating this first week.

Tips

  • Submit assignments on time by tracking due dates and deadlines.
  • Attendance is key to academic success. If you are unable to be where you are supposed to be due to illness or emergency, contact your instructor PRIOR to the start of class.
  • Continue to practice a daily routine that includes when you need to wake up and when you plan to go to sleep.

  • Make sure to finalize your schedule. August 26 is the last day to add a class.
  • Continue to build a weekly checklist to track due dates for projects and assignments.
  • Stop by Tutoring Services to explore your best options for receiving supplemental instruction and support..

  • Enjoy the food on campus and begin to discover some of the best off-campus places to eat.
  • As you begin to develop a sense of belonging, connect with those you have met by planning to attend a PC3 event together.
  • The LEAP Center continues to host walk-in hours to assist you with the semester start.

Tips

  • Set aside 10-15 hours of time for schoolwork outside of class or lab time.
  • Visit your instructor's office hours if you need guidance on how to best complete assignments.
  • Connect with other students in your classes or labs and plan to meet at the Madigan Library for group review sessions.

Tasks

  • Sign up for this great resource: Mastering College
  • Make plans to attend a group meeting or schedule an individual meeting with your LEAP adviser to review your Student Success Plan.
  • Attend Fall Fusion! Head to the ATHS Mall on August 30 from 3-5 p.m. to learn more about clubs, resources, and recreation.

Advice from your LEAP Advisers

  • Make those final decisions about classes that you may wish to remove from your schedule this semester. September 2 is the last day to drop a class with a possible 70% refund.
  • Embrace your First Year Experience (FYE) class. It's supposed to be an experience, not a chore.
  • Contact those who support you and let them know that you are doing OK. If you need to talk with someone on campus, check in with your LEAP adviser, RA, or Counseling Services.

Tips

  • Monitor your sleep habits. You should be getting about 7-8 hours of sleep each night.
  • Find a study partner or study group. 
  • Use the Madigan Library and its many resources. Check out their Course Reserves.

Tasks

  • Take action by responding to any Starfish flags you receive. A flag is meant to prompt you to take action so that you can be successful.
  • Follow up with any clubs or organizations you discovered at Fall Fusion.
  • Register for Mastering College.

Advice from your LEAP Advisers

  • If you are feeling any stress, reach out to your LEAP adviser to learn more Therapy Assistance Online (TAO).
  • If you have not done so already, make a plan to review your Student Success Plan with your LEAP adviser.
  • Missing your family or other support people is part of the transition to being an independent college student. Don't hesitate to reach out and contact those who support you.

  • Your motivation will slip if you are not practicing self-care techniques. Exercise, find ways to relax, and get about 7-8 hours of sleep each night.
  • Set high yet achievable personal and academic goals for yourself.
  • Break your tasks down into manageable tasks. Making a weekly list of tasks to accomplish can sometimes allow you to focus on the immediate and prevent the overwhelming feeling of having too much to do.

  • Take advantage of every resource. Explore our portal to see what Penn College has to offer.
  • If you are struggling and would like to learn better study habits, register for Mastering College.

  • Get involved and ask for assistance from your LEAP adviser if you need help juggling multiple responsibilities.
  • Attend a meeting or event to connect with any clubs or organizations you discovered at Fall Fusion.
  • If you have not already, respond to any Starfish flags you receive.

Tips

  • The weather is changing here in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Stay healthy with the proper amount of rest and good nutrition.
  • If you must miss class due to an illness, contact your instructors PRIOR to the class from which you will be absent.
  • Set weekly goals for each course. Focus on each week and feel accomplished by Friday.

Tasks

  • Midterms are just around the corner. Make use of your instructors' office hours to confirm you are adequately prepared.
  • Make a point to register for a group meeting or individual meeting with your LEAP adviser to discuss your Student Success Plan.
  • Familiarize yourself with Career Services and all the resources available to you. Save the date for the Career Fair on October 4.

  • Start preparing for midterms.
  • Understand the policies and procedures. Know those expectations having to do with academics and residence life.
  • Stay motivated. A walk around campus can sometimes rejuvenate you and provide that extra bit of energy to complete that day's to-do list.

  • Career Services can help you prepare for the Career Fair on October 4. Have your resume reviewed at the Resume Cafe on Tuesdays from 9-10 a.m. in Bookmarks Cafe.
  • Take advantage of the study rooms in the Madigan Library since midterms are coming soon.
  • There is still plenty of time for you to consider registering for this great resource: Mastering College.

  • FYE assignments are designed to help you with the transition to college. Don't forget to complete your Student Success Plan by registering for a group or individual meeting with your LEAP adviser.
  • Check out the LEAP Center portal page for resources on note-taking and time management, to name just a few. 
  • Get involved. We are still in the first half of the semester, where exploration is a large part of your college experience. Go to a meeting and find out what some of the clubs and organizations can offer.
