This associate's degree in Architectural Technology provides students with the knowledge and skills that lead to employment and advancement in the field of architecture. The course work enables the graduate to work in architectural or building construction related jobs or continue toward an advanced degree in a related field. The architectural technician will be involved in work requiring a knowledge of computer applications, including computer-aided drafting, construction materials, mechanical and structural systems, estimating, site and building design fundamentals, presentation methods, building codes, and specifications.

When considering an opportunity to transfer to another college or university, (including Penn State – State College, PA), it would be wise to contact the institution of choice to learn what the current application/transfer requirements are needed, including possible portfolio requirements.
Graduates may work as architectural technicians, designers, estimators, detailers, model builders, illustrators, product representatives and specification writers in the public and private sector. Employment is also available in related industries such as building engineering, construction, code enforcement, materials manufacturing, and residential design/build contracting.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for architectural and civil drafters was $51,640 in May 2016. The top 10 percent earned more than $78,770.

CAD Software Links and Computer Specifications
The following is a list of information that will be helpful for Architectural Technology and Building Science and Sustainable Design students interested in purchasing their own computers. Please note that purchasing a computer and software is optional. Students in our programs are not required to purchase their own computers. Many of our classrooms are equipped with computers and we have open computer labs most evenings and during the weekend.
Students in the Architectural Technology and Building Science and Sustainable Design majors use the following programs:

- Autodesk Revit®
- Trimble Sketchup®
- Adobe Photoshop®
Many of the software products developed by Autodesk are free to our students if they enroll in the Autodesk® student community. If students wish to purchase their own computers, we suggest they purchase one capable of running Revit.
