Welding - Downhand Level II

This course focuses on the welding process that is commonly used in the oil and gas industry. Pipe welding techniques will be emphasized using various types of electrodes using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). Specifications of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Petroleum Institute (API), and American Welding Society (AWS) will be used. The AWS numbering systems and API pipe classifications will be covered. Introduction to the standard practices of joining pipe using the open root and chill rings. The E-6010 and E-7010 electrodes are used, as are fixed horizontal, fixed vertical, and fixed 45 degree welding positions. The techniques associated with API 1104 downhand welding are the focus of this course. This course prepares students to take the 6-G Butt Weld or "T" Branch or both certification tests for an additional fee.
