Trenching and Excavation Safety Competent Person Training

This 8-hour course addresses the regulatory excavation standard through the eyes of the "Competent Person." Participants will be instructed on field applications that help minimize the risks of employee injuries, accidents and equipment failures on the worksite. Hands-on training and field exercises may be used to demonstrate how to conduct a trench inspection, soil classification or installation and use of protective systems such as shields and shoring. "Competent person" means one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.
