Combustion Analysis & Retrofit (Oil)
This course is designed to train participants to perform tests particular to oil-fired systems and to recommend retrofits. Topics covered include combustion analysis, safety controls, venting, temperature rise testing, tune-ups, burner replacements, and new developments in oil-fired units. Combustion Analysis & Retrofit (Gas)
This course is designed to train participants to perform test particular to all types of gas-fired systems and to recommend retrofits. Topics covered include combustion analysis, safety controls, vent safety, carbon monoxide measurement, temperature rise measurement, the treatment of on and off-cycle losses, and high efficiency, mid-efficiency, atmospheric, and power burner units. Weatherization Tactics
Includes in-class learning on building science theory and construction technology as well as lab exercises on methods and techniques for the installation of weatherization materials. Focuses on demonstration and hands-on application of weather stripping, insulation, ventilation, glazing, caulking, hand and power tools, measuring, safety measures, ductwork solutions, air sealing measures, and accessing attics. (29 HOURS). Diagnostic Approaches to Weatherization
Participants will learn the principles of air leakage and how houses perform as influenced by pressure differences caused by increased air tightening, mechanical exhaust devices, and moisture movement. Includes classroom and lab work associated with equipment set up procedures, field analysis for finding and measuring air leakage using the blower door, methods to determine minimum ventilation guidelines, and advanced techniques using pressure gauges to determine potential for back drafting, pressure balancing of duct work on forced air distribution systems. Baseload Auditing
This workshop introduces participants to energy efficiency improvements on baseload appliances such as lighting, refrigerators, etc. Theory and application in baseload auditing techniques are presented against a backdrop of DCED and DOE standards. Methods for selection of measures based on cost effectiveness and actual testing will be discussed. (10 HOURS). NOTE: This is for PA subgrantee employees and contractors only. BPI - Building Analyst I
Building Performance Institute (BPI) training, administered by a network of affiliates, teaches the fundamentals of home performance evaluation and whole-house retrofit planning and execution with a focus on the house-as-a-system concept, including mechanical equipment and the building envelope. Presented against a backdrop of BPI standards, this course covers principles of building science, measure selection, building components, defining thermal boundaries, testing protocols, required math, estimating material, and generating a work scope. Train The Trainer
This course will prepare Weatherization Trainers to deliver educational programs to the Weatherization workforce in their region by implementing universal adult learning principles and applying effective presentation skills. REGISTRATION PROCESS: PA WEATHERIZATION AGENCY SUBGRANTEE PERSONNEL HAVE FIRST PRIORITY, AGENCY SUBCONTRACTORS SECOND, AND PRIVATE CONTRACTORS THIRD. ALL POTENTIAL STUDENTS SHOULD BE AWARE ENROLLMENT IN CLASS IS LIMITED AND IS ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS. Introduction to Residential Heating Systems
Designed to familiarize participants with fundamentals of common residential central space heating systems. It includes a discussion of the oil and gas combustion process, chimneys, appliance types, operating and safety controls, electricity, and fuel delivery. (24 HOURS). Test Out - Installer/Tactics
Tactics test out to include: access door, dense pack, gable vent, and roof vent. There is a written and a lab test.

Test Out - Crew Chief
Test out for Crew Chief to include: blower door, CRF, Dense Pack, House Pressure WRT, Pressure Pan, Tactics Access Door. Part of the Weatherization Worker Certification Application process. Crew Chief test out to include: blower door test, zonal test, pressure pan test, and attic inspection. There is a written and a lab test.

Test Out - Auditor
Test out for Auditor to include: Blower Door, Combustion Analysis, CRF, Equipment ID, House Pressure WRT, Pressure Pan, and Zonal. Part of the Weatherization Worker Certification Application Auditor test out to include: blower door test, zonal test, pressure pan test, attic inspection combosion appliance inspection process, combustion safety tests, CO testing, and Hydronic-Steam Distribution process. There is a written and a lab test.

EPA Certified Lead Renovator - Initial
This course meets EPA requirements for lead-safe work practices training under the RRP Rule. Renovators will obtain EPA certification after successful completion of this course. Completing this training demonstrates your company's competence to prospective clients and can be a marketing advantage that distinguishes your company from the competition. Customer Service for Weatherization Crew Chiefs and Auditors
After completing this workshop, participants will be able to define customer service, identify the importance of customer service in weatherization, be more aware of the impact of first impressions on your customers, better meet or exceed customer expectations, better communicate to the customer through better listening and clear communication techniques; apply customer service strategies that protect the integrity of the weatherization program and still get the job done. Consumer Education for Weatherization
A consumer education course for weatherization assistance providers, this one-day course will assist provider staff in developing and enhancing the customer education process.The course identifies the most common opportunities and presents ideas and strategies to develop the education process and consumer buy-in. Course content includes strategies for in-home, adult education,planning to address the needs of a wide range of customers, actions to promote systematic, behavioral change, and self-evaluation tools and processes. The course will also review DCED and L & I requirements for best practices in consumer education and development of a meaningful individual energy reduction plan for customers.

Advanced Weatherization Diagnostics
Presented against a backdrop of the interaction of the building shell and mechanical systems, students will learn how to use a manometer and other tools to evaluate chimney safety performance and pressure imbalances of forced air systems. Detecting air leakage paths through zonal testing, and duct leakage through pressure pan testing will also be covered. The course will utilize both lecture and hands on activities. This is a competency based course where certificates of completion will be offered to those who successfully complete the written and lab tests. The course "Diagnostic Approaches to Weatherization" is a pre-requisite. Students are required to bring a digital manometer. WTC192
Home Energy Auditing
Learn home energy auditing techniques and apply them outside of the classroom in a real-world scenario. This course is presented against a backdrop of building science, infiltration theory, degree day theory, approved retrofit lists and codes, and concepts behind savings to investment ratio (SIR). Those techniques will include blower door guided air leakage tests, heat systems testing and analysis, material measuring, and working with a field data collection form. The course includes a field trip to an actual house where participants will conduct an energy audit. (19 HOURS). Prerequisites: Diagnostic Approaches to Weatherization, Advanced Weatherization Diagnostics, Introduction to Residential Heating Systems, and Combustion Analysis & Retrofit (Oil and Gas).

DOE Lead Safe Weatherization
LSW is a set of protocols to be used when disturbing surfaces that may have lead-based paint, that will reduce and control the amount of lead dust and paint chips that are generated. The protocols, when designed and followed properly, address compliance with applicable regulations, including state and local regulations, and may reduce the risk of liability associated with the work. Gain the understanding of lead-based paint hazards and their harmful effects and acquire skills in reducing the lead dust generated when painted surfaces are disturbed in the course of installing energy efficiency measures. OSHA 10 Construction
The OSHA 10-hour Construction Industry course will introduce students to OSHA policies, procedures, standards and construction safety and health principles. For students interested in introductory training for the construction industry this course will aid them in effectively identifying OSHA regulatory requirements for the construction industry and work knowledgeably within OSHA's standards. Students that successfully complete the course receive an OSHA Construction Industry Safety and Health 10-hour card. OSHA 10 Construction is required for Weatherization Installers and Auditors. WTC197
OSHA 30 Construction
OSHA 30 Construction is required for Weatherization Crew Chiefs. The OSHA 30-hour Construction Industry course provides students with a more in-depth analysis of OSHA policies, procedures, standards and construction industry safety and health principles. Individuals that supervise crews, manage safety or health programs, or are interested taking more advanced training are encouraged to attend this training. Classroom facilitators not only identify safety and health principles that help the student meet OSHA requirements, but special emphasis is paid to those scenarios in the construction industry that most commonly result in worker injury or property damage. The students are also briefed on basic instructional approaches, improving compliance communication, and how to provide effective training to workers at a construction site.
