MHTI Course Offering
This course provides the knowledge, information, and special skills needed during the on-site completion process to advance the overall quality of a modular home to the customer. The course consists of a series of topics or training modules spanning a two-day (16 hour) time period and covering four critical elements leading to the successful on-site completion of a modular home. Lecture and hands-on exercises are utilized. Topics include: site and foundation preparation, overview of optimal scheduling, complete modular home set, and finishing a modular home.

Industrialized Housing Inspector Workshop

Residential Green Building Training
Green home construction training geared towards builders, developers, building trades contractors, real estate professionals, building code officials, and other interested building-related professionals. This comprehensive training fully prepares practioners for the Green Advantage Certification Exam; Green Advantage is a national environ- mental certification launched with funding from the US Environmental Protection Agency and The Nature Conservancy. What you will explore in this workshop will be green building industry/green building materials, site considerations & passive building design, energy-and-water efficient building technologies that enhance resistance to disaster and biological hazards, construction operations to reduce environmental impact, and indoor environmental quality.

Learn how green homes provide buyers with lower energy costs and higher value. This course for building professionals discusses strategies for incorporating green-building principles into homes without driving up the cost of construction. Students will learn how green homes provide buyers lower maintenance, better indoor air quality and better long- term value. Techniques are also discussed for competitively differentiating your home products with increased indoor environmental quality as well as energy and resource efficiency. Onsite Safety for Modular Construction
West Virginia University Safety and Health Extension has developed training material for residential modular construction workers and supervisors pertaining to fall protection and awareness. The material was developed with funding from an OSHA Susan Harwood grant and will be presented in a 4-hour training course that is free to attend for those people who pre-register. The training will address fall hazards that occur during each phase of residential modular construction and will offer safe alternatives for each potential fall hazard. NOTE: PA RESIDENTS MUST PROVIDE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS.

Safety Issues Inside the FBH Manufacturing Facility
West Virginia University Safety and Health Extension and the Factory Built Housing Center at Penn College have joined together to develop an informational course geared to OSHA situations around or in the modular construction manufacturing facility. This 3.5-hour training session will address issues pertaining to jobsite safety such as fall hazards, machinery and tool operation, and general work evnironment hazards in the modular construction manufacturing environment. Building Science for Modular Construction
This one day session is the prerequisite course for those in the modular industry planning on attending the RESNET Field Rater Inspector Certification and course to be held at Penn College in December. Topics to be discussed will include but not limited to: the Energy Star Labeled Homes program-A description of advanced energy standards for new construction; Principles of heat transfer-a brief lesson in the physics of heat loss; How and when accepted construction practices fail to meet high performance; Ventilation strategies for the 21st century home; Principles of effective heating/cooling design; Building systems interactions-How well-intentioned builders create problems through unevaluated designs; Tools and diagnostic techniques of the building analyst; A primer on health & safety considerations for new construction; The human interaction factor-"Weaknesses in building systems will eventually be exploited to the detriment of the building and the occupants"; How Energy Star and high performance construction benefit the builder and buyer-Considerations for the business model. An exam at the end of the program will be used to assess eligibility for progression to the RESENT Course. Intro to Site Management of Modular Construction and the Ecohealth Homes System
This course combines the updated and ever popular MHTI 2-day training course for builders, set crews, suppliers, and manufacturers that has been a modular industry standard since 1998, with a twist of Green by incorporating the standards and philosophy behind the Echohealth Homes system of Michelle Roberts. The MHTI course addresses the four main areas of site management essential to a more profitable and high quality modular project; these include Site and Foundation Preparation, Optimal Scheduling, the Set, and the Finish. Additional focus on the requirements of the current Energy Star and Green home certification processes. In addition, the importance of proper attention to detail on the site for optimum home performance are included int he updated MHTI course curriculum. Ecohealth Homes are based on the 7 Principles of Healthy Housing by the National Center for Healthy Housing. Michelle Roberts will co-present during the course to address the importance of including the concepts of healthy housing into every design and project. Today's homes buyers are more knowledgeable and demanding with regard to incorporating Green features into their new homes. Modular construction is recognized by several national rating systems as inherently Green for the purpose of contributing points. Modular stakeholders will learn how they can integrate Green strategies into their projects to attract more buyers in the difficult new home market.

RESNET Field Inspector Rater Training
This 4-day program is a partnership between the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) and the FBHC at Penn College. A RESNET recognized trainer and FBHC staff will train in-plant inspectors in the basic building science technology information related to Energy Star Certification. Training will focus on creating an FBH culture where the Energy Star standards are practiced on the production line relative to insulation, air sealing, design of the project and building performance. Intensive classroom instruction on the RESNET standards, building science relative to the Energy Star program for new construction, and extensive "hands on" applications utilizing the weatherization training lab at Penn College. Upon completion of the training, participants will have the option of taking the RESNET written exam portion of the Field Rater Inspector Certification. Participation in the training does not guarantee RESNET certification. Priority given to PA FBH Partnership members.

In partnership with the Green Building Alliance of Pittsburgh, the FBHIP is co-sponsoring this event in Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania residents only are eligible for reduced tuition of $125 - a 75% discount on the regular course fee through a training grant from the Factory Built Housing Industry Partnership, a collection of industry stakeholders who support advancement of green building technologies in the construction industry, primarily in factory-built construction segment.
