Friday, September 11

Registration and Information

Time: 5-8 p.m.

Location: Bush Campus Center, Lobby

 

Pick up your welcome packets! Information on local businesses, services, and events will be provided by the College Town Committee. The committee, formed as part of the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, includes representation from the three local institutions of higher education (Penn College, Lycoming College, and Newport Business Institute) and provides opportunities for students to interact with local community and business leaders. Enjoy dinner on your own in Williamsport or on campus at Le Jeune Chef Restaurant (for reservations, call (570) 320-CHEF).

 

Dessert Reception in The Gallery at Penn College

Pre-registration Required
Time: 6:30-8 p.m.
Location: The Gallery at Penn College, Madigan Library, third floor
Cost: $6 parents and family guests; $ 3.75 students; $2.50 children (ages 5-12); free children (under 5)

Drop in during this time to sample delectable desserts catered by Le Jeune Chef Restaurant and walk through The Gallery at Penn College that features art from artist, Evan Summer. Meet and greet with Penn College President Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour as well as Penn College staff and academic school deans. Gather useful information about Penn College departments and the Williamsport area.

 

A Different Spin

Time: 8 p.m.

Location: Klump Academic Center, Auditorium

Cost: Free

 

A Different Spin is a truly unique entertainment experience. These versatile performers thrill audiences with great circus variety shows featuring juggling, acrobatics, glass walking, and some truly memorable audience participation. Since the group's inception in 2006, they have been a big hit at colleges, festivals and conventions in Canada and across the United States, including performances at Club Med and with the Dreamtime Circus in San Francisco.

Performance is generally family-friendly, but may contain mild adult humor or innuendo.

Brunch with the President and Penn College In Style: College Store Fashion Show

Pre-registration Required
Time: 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Location: Field House
Cost: $5.75 students and adults; $3.00 children (ages 5-12); Free children (under 5)
Seating: Limited to 400

Join Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour in the Field House to kick off the morning with brunch catered by Le Jeune Chef Restaurant. While you are enjoying your meal, students will model the newest in Penn College fashion. All items in the show will be discounted in the College Store Saturday only! 

Around Town

Williamsport Historic Trolley Tour

Pre-registration required
Time:
10 a.m.-4 p.m. (tours leave the Bush Campus Center every hour)

Seating: Limited to approximately 92 persons each tour

Reservations: Sign up online to reserve your spot on the tour. Open seats will be available for reservation at the Bush Campus Center, Information Desk, beginning Friday, September 11 at 5 p.m.

Cost: Free

 

Spend part of your day touring Williamsport's historic neighborhoods and the downtown area. The tours last approximately 45 minutes. Trolleys are accessible to persons in wheelchairs.

Seating: Limited to 125 persons

Cost: Free

 

Take a ride on Williamsport’s Paddlewheel Riverboat. During this time, the entire boat is reserved only for Penn College students! Tickets will be received by pre-registered guests during registration. First come, first served. For more information, call Williamsport City Bus at (570) 326-2500. Directions to the docks will be available at the registration table.

Students from the School of Hospitality, under the direction of Sommelier Neal Palmer, will amaze your taste buds with their exciting and unique non-alcoholic drinks. Participants will be able to sample the refreshments and receive a recipe book to make and enjoy the drinks at home.

 

Vehicle Maintenance and Repair 101 - SOLD OUT!

2-3:30 p.m.
Location: Parkes Automotive Technology Center (ATC), Rm. 122
Cost: Free

An informational session on ways to avoid being taken advantage of when having your vehicle serviced or repaired.  Basic maintenance will be covered as well as "preventative parts replacement".

Intramural Family Challenge

Time: 1-4 p.m.

Location: Athletic Field near the Field House

Games Include: Rick Barry Foul Shooting Competition, Wiffle Ball and Homerun Derby Competition

Other outdoor games will be featured as well which include washers and ladder golf. T-shirts and ice cream will be available on a first come, first served basis.

Learn how to develop a web page for your family or home business.  You may want to bring digital photos to be included in your web page.  You will leave the session with a small website with multiple web pages.

Learn more about the Stage X building project that includes the renovations of the Metal Trades Center, Automotive Labs and the new residence hall, Dauphin Hall. Administrators will discuss how these projects are improving Penn College campus life.

Penn College has a brand new system of fraternity and sorority life and this session is for parents of students who are considering or have already joined a Greek organization. We will discuss what being involved on campus means: including scholarship, service, brotherhood, sisterhood, and leadership. There will be time for question and answer with currently involved students and the Assistant Director at the end.

Victorian House & Garden Tours

Tour the Victorian House with a Penn College Student Ambassador, and enjoy the beautifully lighted and landscaped Victorian House gardens.

Financial Aid: Beyond the First Year

Timing is crucial to future financial aid success. Stop in for a short presentation to find out what parents and students need to do next. Financial Aid staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Evening Events

Festival of Fun

Time: 5-8 p.m.

Madigan Library, Patio
Cost: Free

Children of all ages enjoy interactive games and activities. You can make a wax hand, design frisbee art, or take home a photo ID tag and key chain.

Tethered Hot Air Balloon Rides

Time: 5-8 p.m.

Location: Madigan Library, Lawn
Cost: Free

 

See Penn College and the surrounding Williamsport area from the air in a tethered hot air balloon! Please note that due to the high demand for this event, sign-ups will be taken on-site on a first come first served basis. The high demand may result in a significant wait to ride the balloon; however the staff will do their best to accommodate everyone. 

 

Dinner Catered by Le Jeune Chef Restaurant
