Eating Disorder Awareness Week - 2008
"It's more than just food.it's accepting yourself for who you are."
This is the last stop on the 2007-2008 Personal Responsibility Tour. As with
Alcohol Awareness Week, Depression Awareness Week, and Sexual Responsibility Week, Eating Disorder Awareness Week emphasizes taking responsibility for
your health and the welfare of your family and friends!
This week's events offer many opportunities to learn more about the signs
and symptoms of disordered eating patterns, as well as, what you can do if
you, a roommate, a friend, or a family member is struggling with eating or
self-acceptance issues in any way.

Are you concerned about a student's sudden weight loss/gain or unusual eating
habits? Are you unsure how to approach the student about your concerns? Join
staff from Counseling and Health Services to discuss the signs and symptoms of
eating disorders, and guidelines for meeting with and referring students who may
have an eating disorder. Register through the Professional Development website
or by calling extension 4775.

This event is open to the Penn College community, and will be presented by Sharon Berger, Penn College’s Dietician, and Kim Hummel, Community Assistant. Healthy refreshments will be provided.
At this session, participants will learn:
-Tips for making better food choices
-Facts about essential nutrients and what they do
-The effects of food on the body AND the mind
-Facts about reading nutritional labelsParticipants will also have the opportunity to ask the registered dietician questions and get advice about their diet or food choices.

This film, produced by The National Eating Disorders Screening Program, discusses the effects of media on our perception of body image, exposes the causes of eating disorders, presents the consequences associated with eating disorders, and gives information about the recovery process. A panel discussion will follow the movie.
