Mini-Baja

PCT SME is the parent organization of PCT's NEW MINI-BAJA TEAM! We plan to attend the SAE Mini-Baja Competition in Wisconsin in May. News and updates regarding the progress of the project will be located here. Pictures are located in the pictures section.

5/18/2006 (11:54pm) - Today was a very long and very productive day. We finished screwing with the differential and we reassembled the transmission. We mounted the new clutch slave cylinder that Kevin and I picked out. We started putting stickers from sponsors on the car, and I put on the safety foam for the roll cage. Dr. Albert sent me a bunch of pictures that he had been taking over the past few weeks. I added them to the pictures section. Tomorrow is another full day of testing. I plan on taking a good camera, so we should have some good shots of the car in action. The only thing we haven't made yet is a chain-guard. We've been putting it off for a while, but it needs done. So, that should get done tomorrow evening or Saturday sometime. Wish us luck in testing tomorrow. I'll post the results tomorrow night.

5/18/2006 - It's 2:42am, and I somehow plan on being in the shop tomorrow super early. Dealing with the end of semester crunch and slues of final exams while juggling shop time to try and get this car finished, painted, tested, polished, and packed up has been nothing short of insanity. The car runs, period. Oh, and boy does it run. We have been in the testing phase for some days now, and today we took it out to Bob Logue's farm and tried to beat the snot out of it. I don't think that any one of us could've hoped for a better turnout. All the long days and late nights have paid off. There is some videos of us running it around the parking lot and some poor quality pictures posted in the photo's section. To play these newest videos, you will need the Quicktime player until I figure out how to convert them to a more prolific format. I apologize for the pictures as they were taken with my camera-phone and don't look too great. I will have some better ones in greater quantity posted over the next few days. (I'm making an angry face at you, Chris Vincent. Send me what you have) There's a few final touches that have yet to make their way onto the car. That is taking place today and tomorrow. There will also be some more extensive testing and accompanying video and pictures as I manifest the time to post them. We feel pretty good about what we've built, and we hope that it will make a good showing in Milwaukee. Wish us luck!...and if you're crazy enough to still be in town this long after finals are done, come stop by the shop and check it out. It's quite impressive.      -Zach

3/22/2006 - It's been a busy month since the last update. The car is off of the layout table and on the ground, be it only on two wheels. A good bit of the rear suspension is built, and will be mounted very shortly. The engine/tranny mounting plate is done, finally, and looks really nice. I had an interesting time milling rear hubs out of titanium earlier this evening, but they look really nice. Ingersoll-Rand has decided to become one of our sponsors and has very generously donated TONS of tools and equipment to our shop. On a similar note, the Williamsport Sun Gazette finally printed an article about R&T Technologies' donation to our project. It will be scanned and added to the pictures section. Pittsburgh Plate Glass has also decided to become a sponsor. We are extremely grateful to all of the sponsor companies and their unbelievable generosity. There is no way we would have been able to get this far without their help.      -Zach

2/22/2006 - Progress is coming along famously. So far, our team has exceeded all possible expectations. The amount of work put forth by the students is unbelievable. Be sure to check out the pictures, as they really show how far we've come along. There is someone working in that room from 8am until the doors close at night, so stop by and check it out!  -Zach

1/26/2006 - The website is becoming more complete. We have a big work weekend planned. I posted a TON of pics and there are way more to come after this weekend. The new shocks came in today from Penske...$1700 well spent. They are awesome. I hope to get a sponsors section of the site up and running by Sunday containing information about our sponsors and information for possible future sponsors. If you have anything that you would like added to the site please email it to me.      -Zach
