The Truck

The vehicle chosen for this project is a classic 1960 B-61 Mack single axle tractor. Industry respects the B-model Mack as the pioneer of heavy commercial trucking, which makes this a perfect "high profile: subject for our technology. The vision of our project is to cosmetically restore this vehicle to its original external appearance, but "re-power" the vehicle with the most modern technology available to our industry.

Where Are We?

Presently, our vehicle has been restored to the level of a complete "rolling chassis." The Diesel Club members have installed the engine and driveline. The engine is a 1998 Mack E-Tech 728 cubic inch six cylinder that will develop approximately 750+ horsepower.

Currently, members of the  Electronics Class are working on the wiring harness. Future plans will include electronic brakes and an anti-lock system.

Purpose

The Mack tractor will serve as a rolling lab, allowing students to apply and extend their classroom learning. Students will see, first hands, the results of their design. Following this stage of vehicle development, the truck will be entered in a series of competitive events and exhibitions.
