Brakes
- Check master cylinder fluid condition and adjust level as needed.
- Check master cylinder for internal and external leaks and proper operation; determine needed repairs.
- Bench bleed master cylinder.
- Replace master cylinder.
- Inspect brake lines and hoses; replace as needed.
- Diagnose poor stopping, noise, pulling, grabbing, dragging, or pedal pulsation using road test and visual inspection.
- Perform front disc brake repair including replacement of brake pads, rebuilding calipers, and machining rotors following manufacturer's procedures.
- Perform rear drum repair including replacement of brake shoes and wheel cylinders, and machining of brake drums following manufacturer's procedures.
- Check parking brake system; lubricate, adjust and or replace as needed.
- Test operation of vacuum operated power assist unit; determine needed repairs.
- Check operation of hydraulic valves (metering, proportioning, pressure differential, and combination.)
- Clean, inspect & repack front wheel bearings on rear wheel drive vehicle.
- Test parking brake indicator lights, switches, and wiring.
- Test, adjust, repair or replace brake stop light switch and wiring.
- Diagnose and repair an anti-lock brake system.
Steering & Suspension
- Inspect manual and power steering fluid levels and condition.
- Diagnose power rack and pinion steering gear looseness, and hard steering problems; determine needed repairs.
- Diagnose power steering fluid leaks.
- Remove and replace manual or power rack and pinion steering gear.
- Flush power steering system.
- Remove and replace power steering pump.
- Inspect and replace power steering pump pulley.
- Replace power steering hose(s).
- Inspect steering and suspension for worn parts; replace as needed
- Replace worn steering parts such as inner and outer tie rod ends, pitman arm, idler arm, steering center link, etc.
- Replace broken or worn suspension parts such as upper and lower ball joints, bushings, stabilizer links, springs, etc.
- Inspect and replace MacPherson strut cartridge or assembly.
- Inspect and replace shock absorbers.
- Diagnose wheel bearing noise.
- Inspect and service or replace front and or rear wheel bearings.
- Diagnose vehicle wandering, pulling, hard steering, and poor steering return; determine needed repairs.
- Measure riding height.
- Perform 4 wheel alignment; make all necessary adjustments.
- Center steering wheel.
- Inspect abnormal tire wear; determine probable cause(s).
- Diagnose wheel/tire vibration, shimmy, and tramp problems; determine needed repairs.
- Diagnose tire pull (lead) problems; determine corrective actions.
- Diagnose & repair electronically controlled variable power steering system.
- Diagnose and repair electronically controlled suspension system.
Engine Management - Fuel & Emissions
- Inspect fuel tank and fuel cap; inspect and replace fuel lines, fittings, and hoses.
- Check fuel for contaminants and quality.
- Inspect and test mechanical and electrical fuel pumps; replace as needed.
- Replace fuel filters.
- Inspect and service air cleaner and element.
- Inspect and test positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) filter/breather cap, valve, tubes, orifices, and hoses; service or replace as needed.
- Inspect and test EGR system; service or replace as needed.
- Inspect and test components of air injection systems; service or replace as needed.
- Inspect and test components of catalytic converter systems; replace as needed.
- Inspect and test components of inlet air temperature control system; replace as needed.
- Inspect and test components of early fuel evaporation control systems; service or replace as needed.
- Inspect and test components and hoses of evaporative emissions control systems; replace as needed.
Engine Management - Performance
- Use of Engine Emissions Diagnostic Manual.
- Verifies concern prior to repair.
- Routinely checks OASIS for pertinent information.
- References TSBs as part of routine procedure.
- Use of EVTMs as diagnostic/repair aid.
- Locate/interpret engine calibration information.
- Diagnosing the following Non-EEC Drivability Concerns:
- Basic Adjustments (throttle stop, etc.)
- Induction System Problems
- Vacuum Leaks
- Poor Compression
- Valve train (cam timing, duration, etc.)
- Exhaust Restriction
- Engine Control Strategies (timing, fuel, EGR, etc.)
- Use of the following equipment:
- Breakout Box
- Digital Volt/Ohm Meter
- New Generation Star Tester
- Oscilloscope/Engine Analyzer
- Exhaust Emissions Analyzer
- Fuel Quality Test Equipment
- Fuel Pressure Test Equipment
- NGS Scan Tool
- Service Bay Diagnostic System
- World Diagnostic System
- Performs self test preliminary/visual checks.
- Performing EEC-IV System Self Test.
- Interpreting EEC-IV Self Test Codes.
- Performing pinpoint diagnostics when self test indicates a system fault.
- Diagnosing system faults that don't generate a self test code.

Electrical System Tasks
- Check applied voltage drops in electrical circuits using digital voltmeters; determine needed repairs.
- Check current flow in electrical circuits and components using an ammeter; determine needed repairs.
- Check continuity and resistance in electrical circuits and components using a digital ohmmeter; determine needed repairs.
- Check electrical circuits using jumper wires; determine needed repairs.
- Inspect, test, and replace fusible links, circuit breakers, and fuses.
Battery Concerns
- Diagnose the cause(s) of abnormal battery drain; determine needed repairs.
- Inspect, clean, fill, and replace battery.
- Perform battery capacity (load, high-rate discharge) test; determine; needed service.
- Maintain or restore electronic memory functions.
- Recharge a weak or dead battery.
- Inspect and clean battery posts and cable ends.
- Jump-start a vehicle using battery cables or power supply.
Starting System Concerns
- Perform starter current draw test; determine needed repairs.
- Perform starter circuit voltage drop test; determine needed repairs.
- Remove, bench test and replace/reinstall starter.
Charging System Concerns
- Diagnose charging system problems that cause an undercharge, no charge, or an overcharge condition.
- Inspect and adjust alternator drive belts; replace as needed.
- Perform charging system output test; determine needed repairs.
- Perform charging circuit voltage drop tests; determine needed repairs.
- Remove and replace/reinstall alternator.
- Disassemble, clean, inspect, and replace alternator brushes and/or voltage regulator.
Ignition System Concerns
- Perform cylinder power balance tests.
- Inspect and test ignition system secondary using and ignition oscilloscope.
- Inspect and test ignition system secondary using SBDS.
- Inspect and test ignition primary circuit wiring and components.
- Inspect and test an ignition Hall triggering device.
- Inspect and test a variable reluctance sensor.
- Inspect and test ignition control module.
- Inspect and test an ignition coil.
- Remove distributor, R&I stator, reinstall distributor.
- Check and adjust ignition timing.
- Perform a basic tune-up.
- Diagnose ignition related no start and poor running conditions.
