The general objective of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Forest Technology major is to prepare students for employment in the forest industry and related businesses. The program provides an academic background and specialized skills for a variety of career opportunities.

The curriculum prepares students for technical and mid-management positions in forestry production, wood processing and manufacturing industries. The coursework emphasizes outdoor learning and practical hands-on experience. It provides both an academic and a specialized background needed for a variety of careers in forestry.

Volvo Construction Equipment North America has made another generous donation to support students at Penn College. The Asheville, N.C.-based company recently donated a 2006 Volvo MC80B skid steer loader to be used by students in the college’s School of Natural Resources Management.

Penn College’s School of Natural Resources Management is offering a Forestry Youth Day Camp at the Schneebeli Earth Science Center from June 11-13. Its purpose is to heighten awareness of forestry, wildlife, the environment and the college's forestry program. A maximum of 12 campers, ages 14-16, will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Camp hours will be from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. with a lunch break. Hands-on/outdoor activities will be the focus of the camp. There is no fee for the camp; successful candidates will be notified of enrollment. Areas of instruction will include dendrology (tree identification), wildlife (species and habitat); forest mensuration (measurement of trees, volume calculation); invasive species; history of Pennsylvania (logging era); GPS; forest fire management; forest management; and forest protection (insects and disease). Fifth-graders from Salladasburg Elementary School spent Tuesday morning at Penn College's Schneebeli Earth Science Center, enlightened by forest technology students well-versed in a number of outdoor-related topics. Accompanied by parents and teachers from the Jersey Shore Area School District, eight groups of youngsters traveled through a dozen education stations, learning about trees, firefighting and other topics represented by majors in the college's School of Natural Resources Management.
