Pennsylvania College of Technology's Communication and Literature Department offers a number of core courses in English, reading, and speech — including English Composition I and II, Technical and Professional Communication, Fundamentals of Speech, and Interpersonal Communication. In addition, the department offers literature and other advanced composition and communication electives. The goals of the department are to foster the ability of students to:
- comprehend, analyze, and synthesize written material;
- express concepts in writing;
- apply a variety of revision and proofreading techniques;
- express concepts orally;
- comprehend nonverbal communication;
- communicate in a team atmosphere;
- apply active listening skills;
- utilize resource materials to support opinions;
- demonstrate systematic planning skills;
- apply time management skills.

Library Reading Room Named in Memory of Late Professor

A section of Penn College's Madigan Library has been named in memory of a veteran faculty member and 1988 recipient of the institution's Master Teacher award. The James Everett Logue Popular Reading Atrium - born of 169 gifts from many of the associate English professor's former college co-workers, retirees, past students, community members, and Bucknell University classmates and fraternity brothers - was dedicated Friday night. "I believe he would have been extremely proud to have his name on this very special part of the library, and would also have been excited to see how activities and usage of the library have increased since this facility was opened in August 2006," college President Davie Jane Gilmour said. Sharing poignant memories of her late colleague, and thanking those who donated after his Sept. 1, 2004, death, the president reflected on Logue's 39-year teaching career at Penn College and its predecessor, Williamsport Area Community College. "I also would like to thank his wife, Darla, for arranging the donation of Jim's papers to the archives housed here at the Madigan Library." The collection, displayed near the first-floor elevator, includes literature and music, as well as papers from his days as a student and instructor. Darla Logue, a former associate professor of dental hygiene, joined Gilmour at the podium to unveil a portrait that will hang in the reading room.Faculty Member Nominated for Recognition by Former Student
