About the Human Services A.A.S. and B.S. Degrees
The Occupational Outlook Handbook notes:
"Opportunities for social and human services assistants are expected to be excellent, particularly for applicants with appropriate post-secondary education. The number of social and human service assistants is projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations between 2002 and 2012 — ranking among the most rapidly growing occupations."
Pennsylvania College of Technology offers two degrees in human services.
Human Services (HS) A.A.S. Degree
We train students to provide general helping, supportive and preventive services for people with emotional, developmental, social, or physical problems. Students develop skills in counseling, crisis intervention, group work, and case management. Students apply these general skills in analyzing specific types of agencies and through internships in the field.
Applied Human Services (BHS) B.S. Degree
This degree provides students with a solid background in the general theories and principles of assessing human needs and responding to those needs in the least restrictive environment.
This degree is designed to prepare students for careers in a variety of human services fields including:
- persons with developmental disabilities or mental illness
- individuals who have been adjudicated in the criminal justice system
- individuals and families in crisis
- older individuals
- individuals with a chemical dependency

Human Services Students Host Assistive Technology Expo

Human services students at Penn College presented the second Assistive Technology Expo on Friday in the Field House. The expo featured a broad range of services and equipment to assist individuals with disabilities. The displays focused on mobility, recreation, communication, tracking systems, home accessibility and education. The five student organizers are enrolled in a course called Technology and Human Services, taught by Larue R.
