Q: What are my career opportunities?
A: For students earning an associate's degree, career opportunities include: advertising artist, and layout artist.
For someone who has earned a bachelor’s degree, career opportunities include: layout artist, graphic designer, or creative director for advertising agencies, publications or electronic media. Additional possibilities include employment in corporate and health-service settings directing the preparation of promotional materials and in-house publications.
Q: How do the BGD and AR programs differ?
A: The basic curriculum in both majors is nearly identical in the first two years. Additional coursework emphasizing projects in graphic design for the web, point-of-purchase, illustration, and corporate identity are offered in the third and fourth years.
Q: What is the new Studio Arts (SD) major?
A: The Studio Arts major is a two-year program leading to an Associates of Arts degree. This program is designed for students who have an interest in the fine arts. Within the major students can concentrate in a particular discipline by electing 200 level courses in that discipline. 200 level courses will be offered in photography, painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, and bookmaking. This major provides a comprehensive program in art foundation studies preparing students to transfer to institutions offering specialized fine arts majors and related fields. Students develop skills in the production of various art forms and in proper use of tools, equipment, and materials.
Q: If I am accepted in the AR program, can I transfer into the BGD degree program?
A: Yes, providing you maintain a “C” or better grade in classes within the major.
Q: Do I need to buy a computer or any equipment to complete the program?
A: The design kit required for all first-year students is available through The College Store. In addition, state-of-the-art computer labs are available for students to use during class and open labs times.
