About the Graphic Communication A.A.S. and B.S. Degrees

Pennsylvania College of Technology offers two-year and four-year Graphic Communications majors that prepare students to enter into the printing and publishing industry.

Graphic Communication Technology (GT) A.A.S. Degree

This two-year major prepares students for entry-level positions in production areas or, if they choose, for continued education in baccalaureate programs. Types of jobs might include: digital prepress, preflight analysis and file repair, electronic page layout, color scanning and separation, output technician, digital media development, press operations, finishing and binding operations.

Graphic Communication Management (BGC) B.S. Degree

This four-year major prepares students for entry-level positions in production or management areas or, if they choose, for continued education in graduate-degree programs. Types of jobs might include: entry-level positions leading into production management, scheduling, sales and service, cost estimating, quality-control supervision, and department supervision.

Graphic Communications Management is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council for Collegiate Graphic Communications.

A team of four students from Penn College participated in the Flexographic Technical Association’s Annual Forum held in Orlando, Fla., May 2-6, where the group earned a first-place trophy. The team consisted of graphic communications technology student Angela M. Sampsell, DuBoistown; graphic communications management students Abby E. Gliem, Biglerville, and Ashlyn M. Hershberger, Hummelstown; and graphic design student Timothy A. Miller, Williamsport.

Students gather for peers' exhibit Variety of media, style reflected ... ... in students' graphics coursework Casey C. Gleghorn, of Montoursville, among student artists The Gallery at Penn College held an opening reception and gallery talk Tuesday evening for the student portfolio exhibit on display through May 7. Sixteen students are showing more than 160 pieces of work they created while earning bachelor's degrees in graphic design. Hours for the remainder of the show are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday and 2-8 p.m. Thursday.

The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Madigan Library, will host a student portfolio exhibit April 30-May 7. Sixteen students will exhibit more than 160 pieces of work they created during their studies toward earning bachelor's degrees in graphic design. The work includes stationery packages, brochures, magazine spreads, advertisements, posters, one-of-a-kind books, corporate-identity programs, and graphic design for packaging and the Web. An opening reception will take place in the gallery from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, and includes a 5:30 p.m. gallery talk. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday. All exhibits are free and open to the public.

The schoolchildren, mentored by Penn College students and employees, engaged in a number of hands-on activities while on the first floor of the building's west wing.

Megan Cobb weaves an 'American' tapestry Students design book jackets for Graham Greene classics Summer Sweeley's book jacket for 'The Third Man' features the iconic image of a Ferris wheel An exhibition of book-jacket designs is on display at Bookmarks Café in the Madigan Library. The work is part of the student assignment completed for the first project in the Graphic Design for Point of Purchase course taught by Gary R. DiPalma, assistant professor of graphic design, this semester. Students were assigned two books by Graham Greene – "The Quiet American" and "The Third Man" – and were asked to design hardcover book jackets for a new edition of each. They also designed a point-of-purchase poster promoting the new editions. The images on display show the front covers and spines of the book jackets. Participating students are Barbara A.
