Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How is your program organized?
Basic courses in Electronic Circuits and Devices, Digital/Microprocessors, and Software Tools are taken by all students during the first year. There is also a course that introduces students to the different areas of Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology. During this time we suggest you get to know the instructors in the different specialty areas. Your professors can help you decide what specialty area to be in. During the second year, two-year students take courses in their specialty area. Four-year students take calculus and physics.
When I obtain my two-year degree, can I continue into the four-year program?
Yes, but you need to inform your adviser so he/she can suggest courses that will make the transition as painless as possible.
When do I have to decide what specialty area I want?
During the beginning of the second semester, near the end of January, students are polled to determine interest in the different specialty areas. This allows the faculty to be able to provide the required number of seats for the classes during the second year. Students can still change their minds anytime before classes start in the fall if there are still seats available in a program.
What calculator is required?
The Electronics Department uses the same calculator required by the math department.
What tools are required?
Your lab instructor will tell you on the first day of lab what tools are required.
What if I have to take MTH005 or MTH006?
Many of our students start out by taking MTH005 and MTH006. You need to work hard on your math, but starting at this level will not cause difficulties in your electronics courses.
