Engineering Design Technology
This curriculum prepares graduates for mechanical and engineering design positions in manufacturing- and engineering-based industries using advanced 2D and 3D CAD applications. Graduates will work with engineers and technicians to solve technical design problems in the development and manufacturing of products. The curriculum will prepare the designer to balance function, aesthetics, legal issues, ethical issues, manufacturing parameters, market forces, cultural variables and engineering economics to develop marketable products and systems. Specialized topics in dynamic simulation and finite element analysis provide further opportunity for the graduate. Product design and manufacturing processes are emphasized and problem solving and analytical skills are enhanced through projects, often involving team collaboration. Cutting-edge CAD instruction within state-of-the-art computer and 3D printing labs prepares the graduate for today's work environment with a focus on parametric CAD and digital prototyping applications. AutoCAD®, Autodesk Inventor®, SolidWorks®, and Creo Parametric (formerly Pro/E) ® are used extensively in the program. In addition to course work specific to the major, mathematics, science, metallurgy, manufacturing materials, communications, and computer applications prepare the graduate for the drafting and design field.
Graduates of the Engineering CAD Technology (EN) can transfer into the Engineering Design Technology (BEN) bachelor degree without losing any credits.

CAD Software Links and Computer Specifications
The following is a list of information that will be helpful for Engineering Design Technology students interested in purchasing their own computers. Please note that purchasing a computer and the software is not a requirement.
Students in Engineering Design Technology majors will be using the following CAD programs:
- Autodesk® Inventor®
- Creo® (formerly Pro-Engineer®)
Engineering Design Technology students will also be using Autodesk® Analysis software. This software is free to students from the Autodesk® student community.
Students can use the following link for downloading and systems requirements for all Autodesk® products (Inventor®, AutoCAD®, etc.). The Autodesk® Registration/Activation information is the same for all licenses, commercial and student.

Clubs & Activities
SkillsUSA Champions at Work
The purpose of SkillsUSA, a National vocational student organization, is to compete in more than 80 competitions in a variety of fields. Students can compete in the Technical Drafting competition. Regular SkillsUSA activities include chapter meetings, state and national conferences, fund raising, and community and college service.
Engineering Design Technology Advisory Committee
Advisory committees, which act as recommending bodies to the faculty and administration, consist of in-field professionals who act as partners in the development of curriculum. Their curricular and equipment advice as well as their industry connections and internship opportunities are invaluable to our students and to the growth of our institution.
