Description

Students training

EMT-Paramedic is recognized as an allied health occupation in which healthcare workers respond and provide immediate treatment to victims of illness or injury. As the highest level “out-of-hospital” healthcare provider, the paramedic acts as a team leader during an ambulance response to medical emergencies, rescue operations, mass casualty situations, and crime scenes.

On scene or during transport from an incident, paramedics utilize clinical decision making to formulate a field impression in order to provide basic and advanced life support. Airway management, vascular access, electrical therapy, and pharmacological management are all examples of the invasive and life-saving practices a paramedic is permitted to provide in conjunction with medical oversight.

The roles and responsibilities of a paramedic are a vital link for public safety and provision of healthcare to the community they serve. Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Paramedic Technician certificate major provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of an entry-level paramedic.

In addition to achieving technical competencies to become an entry-level paramedic, the Emergency Medical Services (A.A.S.) student will complete core requirements and directed health electives to broaden his/her professional perspective and enhance his/her role as a public safety and healthcare provider. The final semester includes the requirement of a scholarly-written paper that promotes student analysis and development of solutions for an issue impacting Emergency Medical Services.
